AC:H applied because triggering the vulnerable path requires a specific hardware error condition (adapter registration failure) before the callback dereference can occur.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i2c: amd-mp2: Unregister callback on adapter add failure
amd_mp2_register_cb() stores the platform I2C context in the MP2 PCI driver's callback table before the adapter is registered. If i2c_add_adapter() fails, probe returns and devres frees the context, but the PCI driver can still dereference the stale pointer from its IRQ and system-sleep callbacks.
Unregister the callback before returning the adapter registration error.
AnalysisAI
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel's AMD MP2 I2C driver (i2c-amd-mp2) enables local low-privileged users to corrupt kernel memory, potentially achieving privilege escalation or system crash on AMD hardware. The flaw occurs during driver probe: when i2c_add_adapter() fails, devres frees the platform I2C context, but the MP2 PCI driver retains a stale pointer in its IRQ and system-sleep callback table, allowing subsequent dereference of freed memory. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a local user account with at least low-privilege access (PR:L) on a Linux system equipped with an AMD processor that includes the MP2 I2C coprocessor (present in AMD Ryzen and certain EPYC platforms). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 7.8 High vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N, full C/I/A impact) accurately reflects the theoretical ceiling of kernel-level use-after-free exploitation - arbitrary kernel memory corruption can yield privilege escalation or denial of service. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | The primary fix is to upgrade to a patched Linux kernel stable release: 5.10.265, 5.15.216, 6.1.183, 6.6.151, 6.12.103, 6.18.44, 7.1.8, or 7.2, depending on the branch in use. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
