7.1 HIGH

batman-adv is Layer-2 mesh so AV:A not AV:N; no auth needed on the mesh (PR:N); UAF most plausibly yields node crash (A:H) with possible info leak (C:L), code execution unconfirmed.

vuln.today treats the vendor’s rating as authoritative. A higher third-party CVSS (e.g. CISA-ADP) is shown for transparency but does not drive the headline severity.

DescriptionCVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

batman-adv: dat: acquire ARP hw source only after skb realloc

The pskb_may_pull() called by batadv_get_vid() could reallocate the buffer behind the skb. Variables which were pointing to the old buffer need to be reassigned to avoid an use-after-free.

AnalysisAI

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel's batman-adv (B.A.T.M.A.N. advanced) distributed ARP table (DAT) code lets an attacker on the same mesh corrupt kernel memory: batadv_get_vid() calls pskb_may_pull(), which can reallocate the skb buffer, leaving the previously-cached ARP hardware-source pointer dangling and later dereferenced. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the target to be running the Linux kernel with the batman-adv module loaded and the Distributed ARP Table (DAT) feature in the ARP-handling path - this is not a default configuration for general-purpose servers or desktops. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The recorded CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/C:H/I:H/A:H), but this is the auto-generated, worst-case score typical of bulk Linux kernel CVEs and overstates real-world exposure. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to a fixed stable kernel - 6.18.40, 6.12.97, 6.6.145, 6.1.178, 5.15.212, or 5.10.261 (or later within each series), matching your running branch; commit-level fixes are published at git.kernel.org (e.g. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, conduct an inventory of systems running batman-adv and document mesh network topology, access controls, and critical dependencies. …
