Missing Authorization (CWE-862) in Kibana can lead to information disclosure via Privilege Abuse (CAPEC-122). An authorization control was not applied to a Kibana Entity Store configuration operation, allowing an authenticated user with elevated Kibana privileges to indirectly cause a background task to read from Elasticsearch indices that user is not authorized to access. Derived entity data from those indices is then exposed through the entity store output.
AnalysisAI
Missing authorization on a Kibana Entity Store configuration operation allows an authenticated user with elevated Kibana privileges to indirectly coerce a background task into reading Elasticsearch indices the user is not permitted to access directly. The vulnerability - tracked as ESA-2026-147, fixed in Kibana 9.4.5 - is a privilege abuse (CAPEC-122) rather than an authentication bypass: the attacker already holds high Kibana privileges but exploits the missing authz check to escalate their effective read access into restricted Elasticsearch index data. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an attacker to hold an authenticated session with elevated Kibana privileges (consistent with CVSS PR:H) - specifically the privileges required to interact with the Entity Store configuration endpoint in Kibana Security. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N scores 5.5 (Medium), and this rating is broadly accurate. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to Kibana 9.4.5, which applies the missing authorization control to the Entity Store configuration endpoint per vendor advisory ESA-2026-147 at https://discuss.elastic.co/t/kibana-9-4-5-security-update-esa-2026-147/390107. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
