Unauthenticated network delivery via public comment, no victim interaction, reaching PHP object injection for full code execution; the comments-enabled dependency is a common config so AC remains Low.

The The Events Calendar plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution in all versions up to, and including, 6.17.4 via the is_safe_widget_instance function. This is due to insufficient protection in is_safe_widget_instance, which can be bypassed because PHP fires magic methods during its pre-parse, combined with enable_rendering_widget_copied() forging a valid wp_hash integrity attribute before unserialize() is reached. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to execute code on the server. This is exploitable without authentication or approval because the plugin's V2 single-event template runs do_blocks() over buffered comment HTML, and WordPress returns a moderation-hash URL that allows an unauthenticated commenter to immediately view their own pending comment, delivering the injected block markup to the vulnerable code path before any moderation occurs. This does require comments to be enabled and visible on events.
AnalysisAI
Remote code execution in The Events Calendar plugin for WordPress (StellarWP) affects all versions up to and including 6.17.4, allowing unauthenticated attackers to run arbitrary PHP on the server via unsafe deserialization. The is_safe_widget_instance guard is bypassed because PHP fires magic methods during pre-parse and enable_rendering_widget_copied() forges a valid wp_hash integrity attribute before unserialize() executes; the malicious block markup reaches the sink through the V2 single-event template running do_blocks() over buffered comment HTML. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires that comments are enabled AND visible on event posts in The Events Calendar's V2 single-event template - this is the explicit precondition stated in the description. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine high-priority issue rather than an inflated CVSS number: the CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H = 9.8) is consistent with the description of unauthenticated network-based RCE, and the vulnerable code path and gadget mechanics are documented at the source-line level, lowering the barrier to weaponization. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upstream fix available (changeset 3690576 in the WordPress.org SVN repo); a released patched version above 6.17.4 has not been independently confirmed from the input, so update to the latest available The Events Calendar release (the first version after 6.17.4) as verified against the Wordfence advisory before deploying. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, identify all WordPress installations using The Events Calendar plugin and determine which are running versions 6.17.4 or earlier; immediately implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to block malicious POST requests targeting vulnerable plugin endpoints, and activate comprehensive logging on affected servers. …
