Network-exploitable with low-privilege requirement (authenticated n8n user plus Snowflake credentials); scope unchanged as host filesystem access remains within n8n's own security authority.

DescriptionCVE.org

n8n before 1.123.69, 2.x before 2.33.4, and 2.34.x before 2.34.1 contain an arbitrary file read and write vulnerability in the Snowflake node, which passes free-form Execute Query input, including client-side commands, directly to the Snowflake SDK without applying n8n's file-access restrictions. An authenticated user with usable Snowflake credentials can upload a local file from the n8n host or overwrite an existing file with a staged one.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary file read and write in n8n's Snowflake node allows an authenticated low-privileged user to exfiltrate or overwrite files on the n8n host by injecting Snowflake client-side commands (PUT/GET) into the Execute Query input field, bypassing n8n's own file-access restrictions. Affected versions span n8n before 1.123.69, all 2.x builds before 2.33.4, and 2.34.x before 2.34.1, as confirmed by vendor advisory GHSA-r4j2-j3wm-q689. …

Attack ChainAIDerived

Hypothetical attack flow derived from CVE metadata

Access
Authenticate to n8n with low-privileged account
Delivery
Access or create workflow with Snowflake node
Exploit
Inject PUT or GET client-side command into Execute Query field
Execution
Snowflake SDK executes command locally on n8n host filesystem
Impact
Exfiltrate sensitive file via Snowflake stage or overwrite host file with staged payload

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires two concurrent prerequisites: first, a valid authenticated n8n account with permission to create or edit workflows (PR:L); second, access to a configured and usable Snowflake credential within that n8n instance, either owned by the attacker or shared via n8n's credential-sharing mechanism. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) with a score of 8.7 accurately reflects a network-exploitable flaw requiring only low-privileged access - specifically an authenticated n8n account and access to a configured Snowflake credential. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated n8n user with access to a shared Snowflake credential opens or creates a workflow, adds a Snowflake node, and enters a Snowflake client-side GET command in the Execute Query field targeting a sensitive path on the n8n host - for example, retrieving n8n's environment file containing database credentials or API keys. The Snowflake SDK processes the GET command locally, transfers the file to a Snowflake stage, and the attacker retrieves it from there. …
Remediation Upgrade n8n to version 1.123.69 or later on the 1.x branch, 2.33.4 or later on the 2.x branch, or 2.34.1 or later on the 2.34.x branch, as documented in the vendor security advisory at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-r4j2-j3wm-q689. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, audit and restrict n8n users with Snowflake connection access to essential personnel only, and review audit logs for suspicious Snowflake query activity. …
