Network-accessible KV Store endpoint requires low-privilege Splunk authentication; only partial API key disclosed, so confidentiality impact is Low with no integrity or availability effect.

In Splunk On-Call (VictorOps) app versions below 1.0.43 on Splunkbase, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could read a partially masked Application Programming Interface (API) key from the App Key Value Store (KV Store). The exposure is possible because the Splunk On-Call (VictorOps) app does not fully mask the API key before storing it in a KV Store collection that the user can read. For more information see About the app key value store (https://help.splunk.com/en/data-management/splunk-enterprise-admin-manual/9.2/administer-the-app-key-value-store/about-the-app-key-value-store) in the Splunk documentation.
AnalysisAI
Partial API key exposure in Splunk On-Call (VictorOps) app versions below 1.0.43 allows any authenticated Splunk user - regardless of role - to read a partially masked VictorOps API key from the App Key Value Store (KV Store). The app fails to fully mask the API key prior to persisting it in a KV Store collection that is readable by low-privileged users who do not hold the 'admin' or 'power' Splunk roles, violating the principle of least-privilege for credential storage. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an active, authenticated Splunk session with at minimum a low-privileged Splunk role (PR:L per CVSS vector) - the vulnerability is specifically triggered by users who do NOT hold the 'admin' or 'power' Splunk roles, meaning standard users are the threat actors. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) accurately reflects the attack profile: network-accessible, low complexity, requires an authenticated Splunk session with low privileges, no interaction needed, and impact limited to partial confidentiality loss. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An authenticated Splunk user with no elevated role queries the Splunk On-Call app's KV Store collection via Splunk's REST API or Search Processing Language (SPL), retrieves the stored API key record, and reads the partially masked value. Depending on the masking scheme, the attacker may attempt to infer or brute-force the full key and subsequently make unauthorized API calls to the VictorOps/Splunk On-Call service to enumerate on-call schedules, escalation policies, or trigger/resolve incidents. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade the Splunk On-Call (VictorOps) Splunkbase app to version 1.0.43 or later, which resolves the partial masking issue. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
