DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0, a user who holds the "Automation Engineer" role could run arbitrary Structured Query Language (SQL) statements against the Splunk SOAR database and create, read, update, or delete all data in the database. The vulnerability is possible because Splunk SOAR playbook automation data APIs incorporate user-supplied input into database queries without proper neutralization. For more information see Manage roles and permissions in Splunk SOAR Cloud (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-soar/soar-cloud/administer-soar-cloud/manage-your-splunk-soar-cloud-users-and-accounts/manage-roles-and-permissions-in-splunk-soar-cloud) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

SQL injection in Splunk SOAR's playbook automation data APIs grants any user holding the 'Automation Engineer' role unrestricted read, write, and delete access to the entire SOAR database in versions below 8.6.0. The vulnerability stems from user-supplied input being incorporated into database queries without proper sanitization (CWE-943), enabling arbitrary SQL execution against the SOAR backend. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires possession of the 'Automation Engineer' role within the target Splunk SOAR instance - this is a specific platform role assignable to SOC analysts and automation developers, not a default or anonymous account. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.5 reflects a network-accessible (AV:N), low-complexity (AC:L) attack constrained by a high privilege requirement (PR:H), corresponding to the 'Automation Engineer' role. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated user with the 'Automation Engineer' role crafts a malicious input within a Splunk SOAR playbook automation data API request, injecting SQL that escapes the intended query boundary. The injected payload executes against the SOAR backend database with application-level permissions, enabling the attacker to exfiltrate all case records, stored credentials, and integration configurations, or overwrite playbook logic to introduce persistent backdoor automation. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk SOAR to version 8.6.0 or later, per the vendor advisory SVD-2026-0804 at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0804. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
