Adjacent vector (AV:A) because attacker must be on same network segment; VA:L because crash is memory-layout-dependent and daemon may restart; no confidentiality or integrity impact demonstrated.

DescriptionCVE.org

An integer underflow was found in the DHCPv4 packet capture code of wicked. ni_capture_inspect_udp_header() in src/capture.c does not verify that the IP total length field (ip_len) is at least as large as the IP header length (ihl) before subtracting the header length. An unauthenticated attacker on the same network can thereby trigger an out-of-bounds read past the receive buffer in the wicked DHCPv4 client (wickedd-dhcp4), which can crash the daemon depending on the process memory layout. No information disclosure has been demonstrated. This issue affects wicked up to and including version 0.6.80.

AnalysisAI

Integer underflow in the wicked DHCPv4 packet capture daemon (wickedd-dhcp4) on SUSE Linux systems allows an unauthenticated adjacent-network attacker to crash the daemon by sending a malformed DHCPv4 packet with an IP total length field smaller than the IP header length. The missing bounds check in ni_capture_inspect_udp_header() triggers an out-of-bounds read, causing a process crash depending on memory layout - resulting in a denial of service to network configuration. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The target host must be running the wickedd-dhcp4 daemon actively listening for DHCPv4 packets - this is the default on SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE systems configured to use DHCP for network addressing. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N with a score of 5.3 accurately reflects the constrained real-world risk. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The upstream fix is available via GitHub Pull Request #1079 at https://github.com/openSUSE/wicked/pull/1079; however, a specific patched release version has not been independently confirmed from the available data - monitor the openSUSE wicked releases and the SUSE Bugzilla entry at https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1274627 for an official patched package. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
