AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:H
AC:H reflects the mandatory pre-existing cross-pool zone conflict; PR:N applies to the NOTIFY trigger itself; S:C captures cross-tenant DNS disruption beyond the attacker's own zone scope.

2DescriptionCVE.org
In OpenStack Designate before 22.0.2, the mDNS handler performs pool-blind lookups when resolving record queries and NOTIFY requests. When two zones with the same name exist across different pools, the lookup fails with a deterministic error, causing the handler to return REFUSED for all DNS queries through that path. The _handle_notify path is exploitable via a single unauthenticated UDP packet. This is independently reachable through the cross-tenant zone overlap described in a different recent CVE, and also affects legitimate same-tenant cross-pool configurations. BIND9 views do not mitigate this issue as mDNS is a shared service upstream of any view configuration.
AnalysisAI
Denial-of-service in OpenStack Designate's mDNS handler allows unauthenticated remote disruption of DNS resolution across all tenants sharing an affected pool path. The handler performs pool-blind zone lookups: when two zones with the same name exist across different pools - a condition reachable either through a separate cross-tenant zone overlap vulnerability or via legitimate cross-pool configurations - the lookup fails deterministically, causing the handler to return REFUSED for all DNS queries through that path. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that two zones with identical names exist across different Designate pools - this cross-pool name collision is the mandatory precondition. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 6.8 score with vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:H reflects a carefully stratified risk: the high attack complexity (AC:H) acknowledges the precondition of a pre-existing cross-pool zone name collision, while the Changed Scope modifier (S:C) captures the cross-tenant blast radius that makes this more than a simple self-service DoS. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade OpenStack Designate to version 20.0.2, 21.0.1, or 22.0.2 according to the applicable release train, as specified in OSSA-2026-034 (https://security.openstack.org/ossa/OSSA-2026-034.html) and the upstream Launchpad bug report at https://launchpad.net/bugs/2160533. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
