AC:H reflects the requirement for a specific two-condition error sequence (skip_modeset followed by color management failure); PR:L because any user with DRM device access can trigger display ioctls.

DescriptionCVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/amd/display: set new_stream to NULL after release

In dm_update_crtc_state(), the skip_modeset path releases new_stream via dc_stream_release() but does not set the pointer to NULL.

If a later error (e.g., color management failure) triggers the fail label, the error path calls dc_stream_release() again on the same dangling pointer, causing a double release and potential use-after-free.

Fix this by setting new_stream to NULL after the initial release.

AnalysisAI

Double-free and use-after-free conditions in the Linux kernel's drm/amd/display subsystem expose systems with AMD GPU hardware to potential privilege escalation or kernel crash. The flaw resides in dm_update_crtc_state(), where the skip_modeset path releases a display stream reference without nullifying the pointer, leaving it dangling for a second release if a subsequent error - such as a color management failure - triggers the fail label. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The vulnerability requires local user-level access (PR:L per CVSS) to a system running the Linux amdgpu kernel driver with Display Core (DC) enabled - the default mode on AMD GPU systems with display output. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 7.8 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) reflects a locally exploitable kernel memory corruption with high impact across confidentiality, integrity, and availability - consistent with the double-free/UAF class, which can be leveraged for kernel heap manipulation and privilege escalation. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary fix is to upgrade to a patched kernel release: Linux 6.6.148, 6.12.101, 6.18.42, 7.1.6, or 7.2-rc4, depending on the distribution's stable branch. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
