Network-accessible RPC endpoint requires low-privilege authentication; no special conditions; high integrity impact from unguarded protected-field writes; minor confidentiality exposure from field value echoing.

DescriptionCVE.org

Frappe is a full-stack web application framework. In version 16.31.0 and earlier, frappe.client.set_value in frappe/client.py checks a dictionary supplied through the fieldname parameter against forbidden standard and child-table fields before parsing the dictionary into individual field names. An authenticated caller can exploit this type confusion to mass-assign protected fields through the client endpoint. No released fixed version is available as of this review.

AnalysisAI

Mass assignment of protected fields in Frappe Framework 16.31.0 and earlier allows authenticated low-privilege users to overwrite standard and child-table fields - including ownership, timestamps, and system metadata - via a type confusion bug in the frappe.client.set_value endpoint. When fieldname is passed as a JSON dictionary rather than a string, the pre-parse forbidden-field guard evaluates the dict object itself against the protected-field list (where it never matches), then parses the dict into individual assignments that bypass protection entirely. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Authentication as a low-privilege Frappe user is required (PR:L per CVSS 4.0 vector); unauthenticated exploitation is not possible. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:H/VA:N reflects a realistic threat profile: network-reachable, low attack complexity, no special timing or conditions required, but gated behind authenticated low-privilege access (PR:L). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No released patched version is available as of this review. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Frappe Framework deployments and confirm versions; immediately restrict API access to the frappe.client.set_value endpoint to system administrators only, and enable detailed audit logging for all field modification attempts. …
