Privilege escalation in Windows Remote Desktop Services (RDS) lets an authenticated, low-privileged attacker elevate to higher privileges across a network by triggering a use-after-free (CWE-416) memory-corruption condition in the RDS component. The flaw spans a broad range of supported Windows client and server releases (Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2012 through 2025). Microsoft has released a patch; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV.

DescriptionCVE.org
Use after free in Windows Remote Desktop Services allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges over a network.
Executive ViewAI
Windows Remote Desktop Services in organizations running Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2012-2025 face a privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2026-50369, CVSS 8.8) enabling authenticated low-privilege users to escalate to higher privileges across the network. This directly impacts any organization relying on RDS for remote access, as compromised or low-privilege accounts could elevate to full system control, enabling data theft and lateral movement. A vendor-released patch is available and requires urgent deployment.
Within 24 hours, inventory all Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2012-2025 systems running RDS and assess current low-privilege user account distribution to identify high-risk exposure. Within 7 days, obtain the latest patch from Microsoft Windows Update or the applicable Windows Server/Windows 10/11 security advisory, validate it in a non-production environment for compatibility with dependent RDS applications and configurations, and initiate staged production rollout beginning with highest-risk systems. Within 30 days, complete patch deployment across all Windows RDS systems in your environment to eliminate the privilege escalation attack vector.
Apply vendor patch.

Use-after-free vulnerabilities occur when a program continues to access memory through a pointer after that memory has been deallocated.
Memory corruption occurs when a program writes data beyond the boundaries of allocated memory regions or accesses memory in unintended ways, violating the integrity of the process's address space.
Denial of Service attacks render applications or systems unavailable by overwhelming resources or triggering failure conditions.
