Privilege escalation in OpenClaw before 2026.3.28 lets authenticated operators holding operator.write credentials reach admin-class functionality — specifically Telegram configuration and cron persistence settings — through the gateway send endpoint. Because access controls fail to segregate operator-tier writes from admin-class sinks, a low-privileged operator can tamper with persistence mechanisms and administrative config. No public exploit identified at time of analysis; EPSS is very low (0.02%, 6th percentile) and CISA SSVC records no known exploitation.

2DescriptionCVE.org
OpenClaw before 2026.3.28 contains a privilege escalation vulnerability allowing authenticated operators with write permissions to access admin-class Telegram configuration and cron persistence settings via the send endpoint. Attackers with operator.write credentials can exploit insufficient access controls to reach sensitive administrative functionality and modify persistence mechanisms.

Executive ViewAI
OpenClaw before version 2026.3.28 allows authenticated operators to modify administrative settings including messaging configuration and task scheduling, creating an insider risk for operational control systems. No active exploitation has been observed, and a patch is available, but organizations should prioritize remediation to prevent compromise of critical settings by credentialed staff.
Within 24 hours, inventory OpenClaw installations and verify current version numbers against 2026.3.28 to identify scope of exposure. Within 7 days, stage OpenClaw 2026.3.28 in a non-production environment, validate that operator workflows remain functional after patching, and schedule maintenance windows for production deployment. Within 30 days, deploy the patch to all production OpenClaw instances, confirm version compliance across your infrastructure, and audit operator.write permission assignments to enforce least-privilege access controls.
Apply vendor patch.
