Network-reachable import feature (AV:N/AC:L) requires administrator rights (PR:H) and no interaction (UI:N); code execution on the same host yields full C/I/A impact with no scope change (S:U).

Vtiger CRM through 8.4.0 contains an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in the admin module import feature that allows administrator-level attackers to upload arbitrary PHP files by submitting a crafted zip archive through the ModuleManager import function, which extracts contents directly into the modules/ directory under the web root without validating file types beyond the manifest.xml descriptor. Attackers can place executable PHP files in the modules/ directory that become directly accessible via HTTP, bypassing Vtiger's authentication and authorization layer entirely since Apache resolves the path and invokes the PHP interpreter before the application routing layer is involved, resulting in a persistent web shell independent of the originating session.
AnalysisAI
Authenticated remote code execution in Vtiger CRM through version 8.4.0 lets an administrator upload a crafted ZIP archive through the ModuleManager import feature and drop executable PHP files directly into the web-root modules/ directory, yielding a persistent web shell. Because Apache resolves and executes those PHP files before Vtiger's routing layer runs, the resulting shell bypasses the application's authentication entirely and survives independently of the attacker's login session. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an authenticated Vtiger CRM administrator account (CVSS PR:H) with access to the admin module's ModuleManager import feature, and the ability to submit a crafted ZIP archive containing a syntactically valid manifest.xml plus one or more executable .php files. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.6 with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N and high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the vulnerable system, meaning network-reachable, low-complexity, no user interaction, but requiring high privileges (administrator). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker who has obtained Vtiger administrator credentials - through phishing, reuse, or a prior compromise - logs in and uses the admin ModuleManager import feature to upload a ZIP archive containing a valid manifest.xml alongside a malicious PHP file. The import extracts the payload into the web-root modules/ directory, and the attacker then requests that PHP file directly over HTTP to obtain a persistent web shell that runs outside Vtiger's authentication and outlives the login session. … |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data, so upgrade guidance should be confirmed against the Vtiger vendor site (https://www.vtiger.com/) and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/vtiger-crm-authenticated-rce-via-module-import-file-upload) for a fixed release above 8.4.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours: Disable ModuleManager import functionality via application configuration or network-level controls; audit administrator account activity and access logs for suspicious uploads. …
