DescriptionCVE.org

GIMP TIF File Parsing Integer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of GIMP. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.

The specific flaw exists within the parsing of TIF files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in an integer overflow before allocating a buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-29406.

AnalysisAI

Remote code execution in GIMP 3.2.2 is achievable by an attacker who can convince a target user to open a specially crafted TIF file, triggering an integer overflow during buffer allocation in the TIFF parser that leads to heap corruption and arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user process. Disclosed by the Zero Day Initiative under ZDI-26-458 (ZDI-CAN-29406), the flaw is rooted in missing validation of user-supplied size data before heap allocation. …
