MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated DbGate account that is connection-restricted via the LOGIN_PERMISSIONS/connection-permission model - i.e., a multi-user deployment of DbGate before 7.3.3 that actually enforces per-connection restrictions. The attacker must reach the /connections/test and /connections/save HTTP endpoints with valid credentials (PR:L); there is no remote-unauthenticated path. Exploitation is limited by the need for a valid low-privilege login and by the bounded impact (reachability probing of internal hosts and overwriting of stored connection definitions, both rated Low). Deployments with no restricted users or a single trusted user gain essentially no additional exposure. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity, authorization-bypass issue (CWE-862) whose real-world priority is moderate rather than urgent. The input CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N, base 5.3) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity attack that nevertheless requires an authenticated account (PR:L), consistent with the description: the attacker must already be a 'connection-restricted authenticated user' of DbGate. No EPSS score is present in the input, so exploitation-probability cannot be quantified. There is no CISA KEV listing and no verified public exploit reference, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month,' aligning with the medium severity and the authentication prerequisite - this is a patch-this-month item, not an emergency. The practical risk is bounded: the flaw lets an already-authenticated low-privilege user exceed its LOGIN_PERMISSIONS to (a) use POST /connections/test to make the server open connections to arbitrary internal hosts (an SSRF-style internal-reconnaissance primitive) and (b) use /connections/save to overwrite stored connection definitions. Blast radius is therefore limited to multi-user DbGate deployments that rely on connection-permission restrictions; single-user or fully-trusted-user instances gain little attack surface. Impacts are rated Low across confidentiality, integrity and subsequent-system confidentiality, so this is a genuine but contained authorization gap rather than a high-impact RCE. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A DbGate user whose account is restricted to specific connections authenticates normally, then sends a crafted connection definition to POST /connections/test; because test() never calls testConnectionPermission, the server attempts the connection and reveals whether arbitrary internal database hosts/ports are reachable, enabling internal network probing. The same user can POST to /connections/save to overwrite existing stored connection definitions beyond their permitted scope. No public proof-of-concept exploit was identified; exploitation requires a valid (if low-privilege) account. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Nov 03, 2026
DbGate before 7.3.3 does not enforce LOGIN_PERMISSIONS connection restrictions on the /connections/test and /connections/save endpoints, so an authenticated user who is supposed to be limited to specific database connections can instead submit arbitrary connection definitions. That lets the user probe internal database hosts through the test endpoint and overwrite stored connection definitions through the save endpoint, both with limited (Low) confidentiality and integrity impact. Exploitation requires a valid low-privilege account in a multi-user deployment that actually enforces per-connection restrictions; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and the issue is rated medium severity (CVSS 5.3) with a moderate rather than urgent priority.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade DbGate to 7.3.3 or later, which is the first version containing the authorization fix from commit https://github.com/dbgate/dbgate/commit/9166a987bfec; the same change also adds files/apps/write checks and appid path-traversal validation to the apps controllers, so the upgrade should be applied in full rather than cherry-picked piecemeal. Verify the deployed version after upgrading, since the issue confirms the pre-7.3.3 code path in the connections controller. Primary references for the change are https://github.com/dbgate/dbgate/issues/1601 and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/dbgate-before-7.3.3-missing-authorization-via-connections-test-and-connections-save. The available sources do not describe vendor-sanctioned workarounds for deployments that cannot upgrade immediately, so the actionable guidance is to schedule the update rather than to attempt a configuration change; note that deployments without connection-restricted users carry little additional risk, which can inform how quickly the upgrade is scheduled relative to other work.

Technical ContextAI · show details
DbGate is a Node.js database client and server whose API layer lives under packages/api/src/controllers. In the 7.3.2 source referenced by the advisory, the connections controller exposes test() and save() handlers, and neither calls the testConnectionPermission helper that implements the LOGIN_PERMISSIONS connection-restriction model - the root cause class is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization), where an endpoint is reachable and functional but skips the check that should gate it. Because test() accepts a caller-supplied connection definition, the server will attempt a connection to whatever host the caller specifies, turning the endpoint into an internal-network reachability probe; save() persists that definition, allowing stored connections to be replaced. The vendor fix commit 9166a987bfec is a broader permission-hardening sweep: alongside the connections changes it adds files/apps/write enforcement (testAppWritePermission with testStandardPermission and per-file deny checks) to apps/save-virtual-reference, apps/save-dictionary-description and apps/create-app-from-db, and adds validation rejecting appid values containing path traversal such as '../..' so they cannot rewrite arbitrary JSON files. The precise triggering path for the connections endpoints is described in the advisory; the full mechanics beyond the missing permission check are not detailed in the available sources. The advisory references the vulnerable code at v7.3.2 lines 227-250 and 372-390 of connections.js.

DescriptionCVE.org
DbGate before 7.3.3 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows connection-restricted authenticated users to bypass LOGIN_PERMISSIONS because test() and save() never call testConnectionPermission. Attackers can submit arbitrary connection definitions to POST /connections/test to probe internal database hosts, or to /connections/save to overwrite stored connections.
