| Exploitation Conditions | Two distinct conditions. (1) Query-disruption DoS: requires a client permitted to create objects in a given class AND a MongoDB storage backend; the client stores an object containing a reserved internal field name, which makes every read of that object fail and breaks queries on that class for all users until the field is manually removed from MongoDB. (2) Security-policy bypass: requires a user able to write to their own account/records; they clear internal fields such as account lockout state or password history, circumventing lockout and password-policy settings - this affects BOTH MongoDB and PostgreSQL deployments. Limiting factors: the attacker must already have client write access to the target class/records (not arbitrary anonymous access unless CLPs permit it), the full query-disruption impact applies only to MongoDB, and the issue is neutralized by upgrading or by registering a beforeSave Cloud Code trigger (even an empty one) for every client-writable class including _User. |
| Impact | Severity is moderate: the input CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N) with impact limited to low availability on the vulnerable system (VA:L) and no stated confidentiality or integrity impact in the supplied vector. No EPSS probability was provided, the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, and no working exploit code is referenced - only the GHSA and VulnCheck advisories and the fix PRs - so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vuln.today decision label is this_month, consistent with a real but non-emergency issue. A notable conflict exists between the signals: the CVSS vector encodes PR:N (unauthenticated), yet the description and advisory explicitly require 'a client that is allowed to create objects in a class' or write to 'records they are allowed to write,' which implies at least client/application-level write authorization - verify the true privilege requirement against the vendor advisory before treating this as fully unauthenticated. The supplied vector also records VI:N despite the described ability to clear internal fields (account lockout state, password history), which is an integrity/security-control impact that the input vector appears to understate. Net: a legitimate priority for Parse Server operators on MongoDB (data-integrity DoS of queries for all users on a class) and a security-policy bypass on both MongoDB and PostgreSQL, but not a drop-everything emergency given no active exploitation and no confirmed public exploit. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can write objects to a Parse Server class (on a MongoDB deployment) submits an object containing a reserved internal field name, after which every subsequent read of that object fails and queries on that entire class break for all users until the field is removed from the database. Separately, a user writes to their own account record to clear internal fields such as lockout state or password history, bypassing account-lockout and password-policy enforcement. No working public exploit code is referenced, and the precise trigger field names are not detailed in the available sources. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 25, 2026
Parse Server fails to reject reserved internal field names in client-supplied object writes, so any client with write access to a class can store an object containing an internal field that breaks every subsequent read of that object on MongoDB, disrupting queries for all users of that class until the field is removed from the database. The same gap lets a user clear internal fields on records they may write - notably the account lockout state and password history of their own account - bypassing lockout and password policy enforcement on both MongoDB and PostgreSQL deployments. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and the vendor has released fixes in 8.6.100 and 9.10.4-alpha.3.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Parse Server 8.6.100 on the 8.x branch or 9.10.4-alpha.3 on the 9.x branch (fix PRs 10763 for 9.x and 10764 for 8.x, advisory https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/security/advisories/GHSA-gwrq-q25v-g8mr). If upgrading immediately is not possible, the vendor's workaround is to register a beforeSave Cloud Code trigger - it may be empty - for every class that clients can write to, including the _User class, which causes Parse Server to discard reserved field names from client requests before saving. Note that the workaround does not repair already-poisoned data: objects that already contain an unexpected internal field must be cleaned up by removing that field directly in the MongoDB database, which restores query functionality for the affected class. Until writes are constrained, consider tightening class-level permissions so only trusted clients can create objects in sensitive classes.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Parse Server is an open-source Node.js backend for the Parse platform, persisting objects through MongoDB or PostgreSQL adapters. The flaw is an input-validation weakness (CWE-20): object writes originating from clients are not screened against the set of reserved internal field names that Parse itself uses on stored documents. On MongoDB, an object persisted with such a reserved field name subsequently cannot be read back - the read path errors instead of skipping the unknown field - so a single poisoned row can make queries against that class fail for every user. Separately, because client writes can also target fields the server treats as internal on records the client is permitted to modify, a user can null out their own account lockout state or password history, neutralizing lockout counters and password-reuse enforcement. The vendor fix rejects client object writes containing reserved field names and makes the read path tolerate unexpected internal fields coming from MongoDB by skipping them and logging a warning. Deployments differ: MongoDB installations are exposed to both the query-disruption and policy-bypass effects, while PostgreSQL installations are affected only by the policy bypass.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
Parse Server before 8.6.100 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.4-alpha.3 does not reject reserved internal field names in client object writes, allowing clients to store or clear internal fields. Attackers can write a reserved field that makes reads of an object fail on MongoDB, disrupting queries on that class for all users, or clear their own account lockout state and password history to bypass lockout and password policies.
