| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated Lagoon user account (PR:L) and network access to the ssh service of Lagoon core specifically - the separate ssh-portal service and its components are NOT affected. The flaw is reachable by sending a crafted ssh username/argument that fails to map cleanly to a namespace (the condition addressed by PR #4153). Limiting factors: the attacker must already be a provisioned Lagoon user (not anonymous), only the ssh service in Lagoon core is vulnerable, and only versions prior to 2.33.1 are exposed (fixed in v2.33.2 / helm chart v1.62.2). Operators who have disabled the Lagoon core ssh service, or who rely solely on ssh-portal, are not exploitable. Detection is possible by monitoring the ssh service container logs for the string 'too many arguments'. |
| Impact | This is a genuine high-priority issue for organizations actually running Lagoon core, though its real-world blast radius is constrained by prerequisites and product footprint. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) with full high impact to both vulnerable and subsequent systems (VC/VI/VA:H, SC/SI/SA:H) scores 9.4, reflecting OS command injection (CWE-78) in the ssh service that yields arbitrary code execution and potential escalation to administrative permissions - consistent with the description. The critical limiter, explicitly stated by the vendor, is PR:L: an attacker MUST already possess a valid Lagoon user account, so this is authenticated abuse by an existing (possibly low-privileged) tenant rather than fully anonymous internet exploitation. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, or public POC was provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation - this is a patch-promptly priority for Lagoon operators, not a mass-exploitation emergency. The CWE-78 command-injection nature plus a documented detection signature ('too many arguments' in ssh container logs) indicates the fix (PR #4153: reject ssh usernames that can't map to a namespace) addresses a concrete, triggerable flaw rather than a theoretical one. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who holds a legitimate (even low-privilege) Lagoon user account connects to the Lagoon core ssh service and supplies a crafted ssh username/argument that is not properly validated, injecting OS commands that execute in the ssh service context. By escaping normal command handling the attacker runs arbitrary code and can escalate toward administrative permissions across the platform. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data, but the vendor documents a log signature ('too many arguments') indicating the flaw is reliably triggerable. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026
Command injection in the ssh service of Lagoon core (uselagoon/lagoon) lets an authenticated Lagoon user execute arbitrary commands on the core container, which can be leveraged to escalate to elevated administrative permissions across the platform. Affected deployments are those running a Lagoon core release before the fix shipped in v2.33.2 (helm chart lagoon-core v1.62.2); note the advisory text says "prior to 2.33.1" while the actual patch landed in 2.33.2, so 2.33.2 should be treated as the first safe version. Exploitation requires a provisioned account (CVSS vector PR:L, authenticated) and network reachability to the Lagoon core ssh service specifically; the separate ssh-portal service is not affected. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and the issue is detectable by watching the ssh service container logs for the string "too many arguments".
RemediationAI
Upgrade Lagoon core to v2.33.2, or to the lagoon/lagoon-core Helm chart v1.62.2 which packages it - this is the vendor-released patch and contains PR #4153, which rejects SSH usernames that cannot map to a namespace (see https://github.com/uselagoon/lagoon/releases/tag/v2.33.2 and the advisory https://github.com/uselagoon/lagoon/security/advisories/GHSA-f8mw-q232-qjfp). If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the vendor-sanctioned workaround is to disable the ssh service in Lagoon core entirely; this closes the attack path with the side effect that users lose direct core SSH access, but the ssh-portal service and its components are unaffected by this bug and can continue to serve users, so traffic should be redirected there. Additionally, restrict network reachability to the Lagoon core ssh endpoint to known administrative networks or VPN ranges rather than exposing it broadly, and audit provisioned Lagoon accounts since a valid user account is a prerequisite (CVSS PR:L) - revoking unused accounts reduces the pool of potential initiators but does not substitute for patching. For detection, alert on the string "too many arguments" in the ssh service container logs, which indicates a username that failed to map to a namespace and may signal an injection attempt; enable retention and forwarding of those logs before applying the upgrade so that retroactive hunting remains possible.

Technical ContextAI · show details
CWE-78 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command) in Lagoon core's ssh service, which accepts inbound SSH connections and derives a Kubernetes namespace from the supplied SSH username in order to place users into their project environments. The username value was passed into a shell invocation without adequate sanitization, so a crafted username containing additional arguments or shell metacharacters is interpreted as a command rather than a namespace identifier - the fix in PR #4153 ("reject ssh usernames that can't map to a namespace") adds validation that rejects usernames which do not resolve to a legitimate namespace. Because the vulnerable process runs inside lagoon-core with platform-level credentials and access to the Kubernetes API, successful injection yields command execution in that context, which is why the assessed scope is changed (S:C) with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on both the vulnerable component and downstream environments. The observable side effect - shell tooling emitting "too many arguments" - is a direct artifact of the extra argument reaching a command that expected a single namespace parameter. The CPE (cpe:2.3:a:uselagoon:lagoon:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is unpinned, so operators must determine exposure by deployed version rather than by CPE matching.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Lagoon is an application delivery platform for Kubernetes. Versions prior to 2.33.1 have a vulnerability in the ssh service in Lagoon core that would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code which could lead to, among other things, elevated administrative permissions. It is mitigated by the fact that an attacker must have a Lagoon user account. Exploitation may be detected by checking the container logs of the ssh service for: too many arguments. The vulnerability was fixed in Lagoon v2.33.2, which is included in the lagoon/lagoon-core helm chart v1.62.2. As a workaround, the ssh service in Lagoon core can be disabled. The ssh-portal service and components are not effected and can continue to be used.

Executive ViewAI
Lagoon's core SSH service carries a critical command-injection vulnerability (CVE-2026-113788) that lets any authenticated user with a provisioned account seize administrative control of the entire deployment platform. Teams relying on Lagoon for CI/CD are affected because a single low-privileged developer account-or a compromised one-could be used to alter pipelines, reach secrets, and disrupt releases. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but every Lagoon core release before v2.33.2 remains exposed and warrants immediate attention from platform owners.
