2 techniques across 2 tactics: Collection, Discovery The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a MISP instance explicitly configured to push events to a remote server via synchronization, AND affected events must contain multiple event reports where at least one carries non-exportable (restricted) tags. The bug only manifests across a multi-report set: the tag-filtering routine runs once after iterating all reports instead of per report, so only the final report is correctly sanitized. Limiting factors: an authenticated/trusted sync relationship must already exist (PR:L), disclosure is confined to instances the operator already pushes to, single-report events are unaffected, and no external unauthenticated access to the vulnerable host is involved. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-severity confidentiality issue, not an urgent priority. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L) and the 5.3 base score are internally consistent with the description: exploitation occurs over the network within an already-established, authenticated MISP synchronization relationship (PR:L), requires no user interaction, has low attack complexity, and yields only low-impact confidentiality loss (leakage of non-exportable tag metadata, CWE-200). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public exploit was provided; exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' Critically, this is not a classic adversarial exploit - the disclosure happens automatically as a side effect of a logic error during normal sync operations, so the real-world 'attacker' is effectively the trusted but unintended receiving instance rather than an external actor. The signals do not conflict, but note that the disclosure is bounded to MISP instances the victim already chose to push to, which substantially limits real-world risk below what a raw network-vector reading might suggest. The secondary effect (a null last report causing the remote instance to fail saving the event) is a minor availability/integrity annoyance on the receiving side, not reflected in the vendor's VI:N/VA:N scoring. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A MISP instance is configured to synchronize events to a remote (e.g. partner or community) server, and an event contains multiple event reports where some carry non-exportable/restricted tags. During the push, every report except the last retains its restricted tags, silently disclosing that restricted tag information to the receiving instance; if the last report is withheld, a null report is pushed and the remote fails to save the event. No public exploit code exists - the only source artifact is the upstream fix commit. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026
MISP before 2.5.48 can leak restricted tag metadata to a remote synchronization peer because its push-preparation routine removes non-exportable tags only after processing the entire report set, leaving all but the final report unsanitized. The issue affects authenticated MISP deployments that push events containing multiple event reports to another MISP server, and the same logic can also emit an empty report and cause the remote instance to fail saving the event. It is a low-severity confidentiality issue with no public exploit identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade MISP to 2.5.48 or later, which is the first version outside the affected range, or apply upstream commit 0be4564a9; the commit is at https://github.com/MISP/MISP/commit/0be4564a9. Until patched, avoid pushing events with multiple event reports that contain non-exportable tags, manually remove or review restricted tags on reports before synchronization, and limit push synchronization to trusted MISP peers. Disabling or narrowing synchronization reduces exposure but interrupts event sharing, and stripping tags can remove classification context; monitor remote instances for failed event saves caused by null reports.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MISP stores event reports as EventReport entries and prepares them for outbound synchronization in app/Model/Event.php. The root cause is CWE-200 exposure of sensitive information: the __prepareEventReportForSync routine iterates over EventReport entries and calls __removeNonExportableTags for each report. The faulty code called the filtering once after the loop, so only the last report's restricted tags were stripped; earlier reports retained non-exportable tags and were transmitted. The loop also allowed an empty final report to become a null report, which the receiving MISP instance could not save. No CPE strings were provided; the affected code is in app/Model/Event.php and the upstream fix is commit 0be4564a9.

Disclosure occurs over an authenticated sync push (AV:N, PR:L, AC:L) with low confidentiality impact (restricted tag metadata only) and no required user interaction; integrity/availability impacts are negligible.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
In MISP, the event synchronization process contained a logic error in the preparation of event reports for remote push. The filtering of non-exportable tags was applied only once after the iteration over all reports, rather than to each individual report.
As a result:
- All reports except the last one in the set were pushed to the remote MISP instance with their non-exportable tags intact, effectively disclosing restricted tag information to the receiving instance.
- When the last report in the set was withheld (empty), a null report was pushed, causing the remote instance to fail saving the event.
This issue affects any MISP instance configured to push events with multiple reports to a remote server via synchronization.
Affected: <2.5.48.
