MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Collection, Discovery The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the SiYuan instance to be running in publish mode with at least one published document, and that published document must be the target of backlinks/references from documents that are password-protected or have publishing disabled. The attacker must know or enumerate a valid published document ID, then invoke /api/block/getDocInfo or /api/block/getDocsInfo against it. Limiting factors: only metadata (refIDs and refCount of hidden referencing blocks) is exposed, not the protected document content; the instance must actually be deployed in publish mode (not local-only use); and the flaw is fixed in SiYuan 3.8.5, so patched or pre-publish deployments are not affected. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-severity confidentiality issue, not a critical priority. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N) scoring 6.9 correctly reflects a remotely reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw with only LOW confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact. PR:N is credible here because SiYuan's publish mode is intentionally exposed to anonymous readers, so the 'unauthenticated' characterization aligns with the documented attack surface. However, the real-world risk is bounded by what actually leaks: only backlink block IDs (refIDs) and reference counts of hidden referencing blocks - metadata, not the protected document contents themselves. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC were provided in the input, so there is no signal of active or widespread exploitation; this places it as a credible-but-not-urgent issue. The signals are internally consistent (no conflict between the network vector and the described remote API abuse), so the primary caveat is simply that exploitation yields limited metadata disclosure rather than full content compromise. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An anonymous reader of a SiYuan site running in publish mode identifies the internal ID of a published document, then sends a crafted POST request to /api/block/getDocInfo or /api/block/getDocsInfo for that ID. The response leaks the refIDs and reference counts of blocks in password-protected or publish-disabled documents that link to it, letting the attacker infer the existence, structure, and linkage of content that was meant to remain hidden. No public exploit code was identified in the input, but the attack requires only standard HTTP requests against the network-facing publish API (AV:N/AC:L). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 04, 2026
Information disclosure in SiYuan before 3.8.5 allows publish-mode readers to extract backlink block IDs (refIDs) and reference counts (refCount) belonging to password-protected or publish-disabled documents by POSTing a published document ID to /api/block/getDocInfo or /api/block/getDocsInfo. The attacker only needs network reachability to the publish endpoint and knowledge of a valid published document ID - no authentication is required per the CVSS vector (PR:N) - and the exposed data is metadata about hidden referencing blocks rather than the protected documents' content. Exploitation requires the instance to actually be running in publish mode with at least one published document that is referenced by a protected or unpublished note; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and a vendor fix is available in SiYuan 3.8.5.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to SiYuan 3.8.5 or later - the vendor-released patch that closes this issue - as the primary and complete fix, and verify the running version after upgrade; details are in GHSA-v758-8w88-pfr2 (https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-v758-8w88-pfr2) and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/siyuan-before-3.8.5-information-disclosure-via-api-block-getdocinfo-and-getdocsinfo). If immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to take the instance out of publish mode or stop exposing the publish web service, which removes the attack surface entirely at the cost of losing public sharing; a narrower alternative is to block POST requests to /api/block/getDocInfo and /api/block/getDocsInfo at the reverse proxy or WAF for untrusted clients, accepting that legitimate backlink and reference-count displays in published documents may break for those users. Because the issue is limited to metadata, a further risk-reduction step is to audit which documents are referenced from password-protected or unpublished notebooks and avoid publishing those referencing targets until patching is complete; note that this is a manual, ongoing effort and does not scale well across large workspaces. No public exploit code has been identified, so the urgency of the workaround is driven by exposure of the publish endpoint rather than by observed attacks.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SiYuan is an open-source, local-first personal knowledge management application that structures notes as blocks connected by references and backlinks, and it can expose a read-only 'publish' web view for selected documents. The vulnerability is a CWE-200 exposure of sensitive information to an unauthorized actor: the kernel API methods backing /api/block/getDocInfo and /api/block/getDocsInfo return document metadata that includes the refIDs and refCount of blocks referencing the queried document, and this aggregation is computed across the workspace without enforcing the publish confidentiality boundary on the referencing side. As a result, blocks that live inside password-protected notebooks or documents with publishing disabled still contribute their identifiers and reference tallies to the response, letting a publish-mode reader infer the existence, identity, and linkage density of hidden content. The scope is confined to metadata - no note body, block content, or attachment is disclosed - and the flaw is neutralized in 3.8.5, so patched deployments and instances never placed in publish mode are unaffected. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:siyuan-note:siyuan:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all SiYuan releases prior to the fixed version.

SiYuan before 3.8.5 contains an information disclosure vulnerability that allows publish-mode readers to learn backlink block IDs and reference counts from password-protected and publish-disabled documents by querying a published document. Attackers can send POST requests to /api/block/getDocInfo or getDocsInfo for a published document ID to obtain refIDs and refCount of hidden referencing blocks, bypassing the publish confidentiality boundary.
