DescriptionCVE.org

n8n versions before 1.123.80, from 2.0.0 before 2.39.6, and from 2.40.0 before 2.40.1 contain a path traversal vulnerability in signed resume URL generation for Send-and-Wait approvals. Attackers with workflow creation permissions can mint valid approval URLs for gates in projects they cannot access by exploiting unresolved traversal sequences in caller-controlled node IDs, enabling cross-project approval forgery.

AnalysisAI

Cross-project approval forgery in n8n's Send-and-Wait approval feature allows an authenticated attacker with workflow-creation permissions to mint valid signed resume URLs for approval gates in projects they cannot access by supplying caller-controlled node IDs that contain unresolved path-traversal sequences. Affected releases are n8n before 1.123.80, from 2.0.0 before 2.39.6, and from 2.40.0 before 2.40.1; the issue is meaningful primarily in multi-project or multi-tenant deployments where project isolation is relied upon as a security boundary. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated account with workflow-creation permissions in at least one n8n project (PR:L), and specifically targets the Send-and-Wait approval feature's signed resume-URL generation. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine but moderate-severity, low-likelihood-of-mass-exploitation issue. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to n8n 1.123.80 or later for the 1.x line, 2.39.6 or later for the 2.0.0 through 2.39.x line, and 2.40.1 for the 2.40.0 release. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory every n8n instance in the environment, record the running release line, and immediately upgrade any shared or multi-tenant deployment where project isolation is relied upon as a boundary to its corresponding fixed version: 1.123.80 on the 1.x line, 2.39.6 on the 2.x line from 2.0.0, or 2.40.1 on the 2.40.x line. …
