Network-reachable and unauthenticated, but AC:H because triggering the truncation requires transferring a message near the ~4GB buffer limit; primary impact is crash (A:H) with limited heap-corruption C/I.

A flaw was found in libsoup. When reassembling fragmented WebSocket messages into a GByteArray, libsoup did not adequately cap total message size against the limits of the underlying buffer type. A remote peer could send fragments that caused size truncation while the implementation still used the full length, leading to heap corruption or a crash.

AnalysisAI
Heap corruption and denial of service in libsoup stem from unbounded WebSocket message reassembly: the code accumulates fragmented frames in a GByteArray without checking the total reassembled size against the buffer type's size limit, so an oversized message can truncate the tracked length while the implementation continues to use the full length, producing out-of-bounds memory access (CWE-125) and possible crashes. The flaw is reachable by unauthenticated remote peers that can establish a WebSocket connection with a libsoup-based server, or by a libsoup client that connects to an attacker-controlled or man-in-the-middle server, but the assessed vector (AC:H) reflects that the attacker must drive reassembly to the underlying ~4 GB buffer-type boundary, so ordinary small-message WebSocket traffic does not trigger it. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires that the target application uses libsoup's WebSocket support and accepts a WebSocket connection with a controllable remote peer (a libsoup-based server accepting client connections, or a libsoup client connecting to an attacker-controlled/MITM'd server). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but conditionally-limited memory-safety flaw in libsoup, the GNOME HTTP/WebSocket library that ships in every RHEL release from 6 through 10 (per Red Hat CPE data) and underpins WebKitGTK and most GNOME network apps. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all systems and applications that use libsoup (including GNOME-based servers, WebSocket services, and client applications) and check vendor advisories for the exact affected versions; immediately limit WebSocket message reassembly size at the application or reverse-proxy layer (e.g., set a maximum message size of 1 MB) and monitor for abnormal memory usage or crashes. …
