Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an attacker to already hold a valid, unexpired OAuth access token bound to a specific OAuth client (application) in pretix, and for an administrator to have manually disabled that client afterward. The token continues to work only until its normal lifetime expires - there is no way to extend it - so the exposure window is bounded by the original token TTL. This is authenticated access (PR:L, a valid token is a prerequisite) with high complexity (AC:H) and a required attack condition (AT:P per the vendor vector); it does not enable unauthenticated access against a default configuration. The limiting factors are significant: the token must pre-exist the disable action, remain within its lifetime, and the attacker must possess it.

Impact

This is a low-severity access-control weakness, not a high-CVSS scramble. All signals point the same low direction: the vendor's own CVSS 4.0 vector (CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N) yields only 2.1, driven by high attack complexity (AC:H), a required attack condition (AT:P), required privileges (PR:L), user interaction (UI:P), and uniformly Low impact metrics. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public proof-of-concept - so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The core issue is improper credential revocation: an OAuth access token remains valid for its full natural lifetime even after an administrator manually disables the OAuth client it is bound to, defeating the assumption that disabling an app immediately cuts off its access. The realistic risk is narrow and conditional - it only matters for a token that was already issued to an app that an operator later disabled, and only until that token would have expired anyway. Confirmed as a vendor self-report by rami.io (pretix's maker) with a fix shipped in release 2026.7.1. Note the CWE is listed as N/A and the 'Information Disclosure' tag only partially fits - the flaw is fundamentally insufficient credential/session revocation (CWE-613-style), which happens to allow continued read/write access rather than being a pure disclosure bug.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An administrator disables a compromised or decommissioned OAuth application in pretix, believing this immediately revokes its access. An attacker (or the decommissioned integration) still holding a previously-issued access token continues to call the pretix API with that token until it naturally expires, reading or modifying event/order data the token's scope permits. No public exploit code exists; exploitation requires already possessing a valid, not-yet-expired token bound to the disabled client.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026

OAuth access tokens issued by pretix continue to be honored for their entire original lifetime even after an administrator manually disables the OAuth client (application) they belong to, so disabling an application is not an effective immediate revocation mechanism. Exploitation requires an attacker to already possess a valid, unexpired access token that was issued to that client before it was disabled, meaning this is an authenticated, high-complexity access-control weakness rather than a remotely reachable bypass. Severity is low (vendor CVSS 4.0 score 2.1; independent CVSS 3.1 assessment 2.1 with C:L/I:L, AC:H, PR:L), no CISA KEV listing is present and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and no EPSS score was supplied in the available intelligence. Because the exposure window is bounded by the token's original TTL and cannot be extended, the practical risk is limited to the residual lifetime of already-issued tokens.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: pretix 2026.7.1 - upgrade to that release per the vendor announcement at https://pretix.eu/about/en/blog/20260929-release-2026-7-1/, which documents the corrected token-revocation behavior; after upgrading, actively disabling an OAuth client should revoke outstanding tokens as expected. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, the actionable compensating control is manual token revocation: enumerate and delete/revoke all access tokens belonging to the OAuth client before disabling it, using the administrator's token management view or the database backing the OAuth store - the trade-off is that any legitimate integration still using that client is broken immediately and must re-authorize once re-enabled. Rotating the OAuth client secret is not sufficient on its own, because it prevents new token issuance but does not invalidate already-issued access tokens. Configuring shorter access-token lifetimes reduces the residual window at the cost of more frequent re-authorization for all integrations, and restricting which accounts are permitted to authorize third-party OAuth clients limits the blast radius of any leaked token. Note that CISA KEV does not list this CVE and no public exploit code has been identified, so emergency out-of-band patching is not indicated; treat this as a routine hardening item driven by the low severity assessment (CVSS 3.1 base 2.1, AC:H, PR:L, C:L/I:L/A:N).

Technical ContextAI · show details

pretix is a ticketing and event-management platform that exposes an OAuth 2.0 provider interface, allowing third-party OAuth clients (applications) to obtain access tokens on behalf of users or organizations. This issue concerns the token lifecycle and revocation semantics of that OAuth implementation: when an administrator disables an OAuth client, the platform stops the client from obtaining new tokens but does not invalidate access tokens already issued to it, which remain valid until their natural expiry. The root-cause class is insufficient revocation on state change - conceptually CWE-613 (Insufficient Session Expiration) and CWE-672 (Operation on a Resource after Expiration or Release); note that no CWE identifier was assigned in the provided data. The CPE string cpe:2.3:a:pretix:pretix:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates the affected component is the pretix server application itself with no version qualifier in the supplied data, i.e. the weakness is treated as applying across pretix releases prior to the vendor's fix. The 4.0 vector contributes AV:N with AC:H and AT:P (attack requirements present) and PR:L, which matches the independent assessment that a pre-existing, unexpired token is the prerequisite - an anonymous user with no token gains nothing, and no escalation of privileges beyond the token's original scope is possible.
