5DescriptionCVE.org
Grav before 2.0.25 ships web server configuration samples whose access-control deny rules are matched case-sensitively. In webserver-configs/web.config (IIS), every deny rule (user_sensitive_folders, user_accounts, user_data, user_error_redirect, user_pages, system, vendor, ignore_folders) sets ignoreCase="false" on its URL Rewrite <match> element, overriding the IIS default of ignoreCase="true"; because these are rewrite matches rather than <requestFiltering> elements, there is no case-insensitive fallback. On IIS running over case-insensitive NTFS, an unauthenticated remote attacker can vary the case of a folder name or file extension (for example GET /user/CONFIG/system.YAML) so that no deny rule matches and the IIS static file handler resolves and returns the underlying file, disclosing sensitive data such as configuration secrets or account password hashes. Whether a bypassed file is actually returned depends on MIME registration: .json is served by default, while .yaml/.yml return HTTP 404.3 on a stock IIS unless a YAML MIME mapping has been added. The same class of gap exists in the bundled webserver-configs/lighttpd.conf, whose user/(config|env), directory, script-extension, root-file and dotfile rules lack the (?i) modifier, though it is lower risk because lighttpd typically runs on case-sensitive filesystems. Deployments served by Apache (.htaccess), nginx, Caddy, or the PHP built-in server are not affected. The issue is fixed in 2.0.25; because the .htaccess installer heal does not touch web.config or lighttpd.conf, operators must re-copy the corrected sample files after upgrading.

AnalysisAI
Information disclosure in Grav CMS before 2.0.25 lets unauthenticated remote attackers read sensitive files - configuration secrets and account password hashes - when the site is served by Microsoft IIS using the bundled webserver-configs/web.config over a case-insensitive filesystem such as NTFS, simply by varying the case of a folder name or extension (for example GET /user/CONFIG/system.YAML) so that none of the case-sensitive URL Rewrite deny rules match. The practical blast radius is narrower than the raw path-bypass suggests: whether a bypassed file is actually returned depends on MIME registration, with .json served by default while .yaml/.yml return HTTP 404.3 on a stock IIS unless a YAML MIME mapping has been added; the equivalent gap in webserver-configs/lighttpd.conf is lower risk because lighttpd typically runs on case-sensitive filesystems, and deployments behind Apache (.htaccess), nginx, Caddy, or the PHP built-in server are not affected. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the Grav instance (before 2.0.25) is served by Microsoft IIS using the bundled webserver-configs/web.config, running over a case-insensitive filesystem such as NTFS; the lighttpd.conf sample carries the same gap but is lower risk since lighttpd typically runs on case-sensitive filesystems. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but sharply scoped issue. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Grav 2.0.25, the version in which the case-sensitivity defect in the sample web server configurations is corrected. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every Grav CMS deployment and identify those running on Microsoft IIS with NTFS or another case-insensitive filesystem using the bundled webserver-configs/web.config; treat any instance below version 2.0.25 as exposed and apply an interim mitigation by adding case-insensitive deny rules for /user/ paths at the IIS or reverse-proxy layer, removing any YAML/YML MIME mappings that would cause .yaml/.yml files to be served rather than returned as HTTP 404.3, and confirming that .json responses under /user/ are blocked. …
