| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid low-privileged authenticated session on the Junos Space web interface (PR:L) - exploitation is not possible pre-authentication. No special non-default configuration is indicated: the issue affects all versions of Junos Space before 24.1R3 in their normal web-interface deployment, exploited by sending crafted GET requests that defeat the JBoss daemon's file-path restrictions. The main limiting factors are (1) the attacker must already possess or obtain credentials of at least a low-privileged user, and (2) impact is read-only disclosure of files accessible to the JBoss daemon - there is no integrity or availability impact. No user interaction is required. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity information disclosure flaw (CWE-552) with a vendor-assigned CVSS 4.0 base score of 7.1. The vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) indicates network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation requiring only low-privileged authentication and no user interaction, with impact confined to confidentiality (VC:H; VI:N/VA:N). Signals are internally consistent and point to a real but bounded risk: the EPSS score is low at 0.29% (19th percentile), the CVE is NOT listed in CISA KEV, and no public exploit code was identified in the provided data, so there is no evidence of active or imminent widespread exploitation. The primary driver of priority is that the flaw lets an already-authenticated low-privilege user escalate their read access to arbitrary files on the system - a meaningful privilege/trust-boundary bypass on a network management platform that often stores credentials and device configurations. Net assessment: a legitimate patching priority for Junos Space operators because the attacker barrier is low once any account exists, but not an emergency given low EPSS, no KEV listing, and no known public POC. The requirement for valid (even low-privileged) authentication is the main factor keeping real-world risk below the raw score. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who holds any low-privileged account on the Junos Space web interface (or who has phished/obtained such credentials) sends a specially crafted GET request that abuses path handling in the JBoss daemon to traverse outside the normally permitted file path. They retrieve sensitive files - such as configuration data or credentials - that their account level should not be able to read. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and the low complexity (AC:L) means a working request requires little specialized tooling once access exists. |

Authenticated file disclosure in Juniper Networks Junos Space lets a low-privileged network-based user read arbitrary files from the appliance filesystem by sending crafted GET requests to the web interface that evade the JBoss daemon's path restrictions. The issue affects all Junos Space versions before 24.1R3, including 24.1R1 and 24.1R2, and is rated by the vendor at CVSS 4.0 base 7.1 (our independent CVSS 3.1 assessment is 6.5, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) because impact is limited to confidentiality - no integrity or availability effect. Exploitation requires a valid low-privileged session (PR:L per the vector), no user interaction is needed, and there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis; EPSS is low at 0.29% (19th percentile), and the flaw is not in CISA KEV.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Junos Space to 24.1R3 or later - the vendor-released fix is 24.1R3, which resolves the JBoss path restriction bypass; see Juniper advisory JSA103170 at https://supportportal.juniper.net/JSA103170 for the official download and upgrade steps. Because the flaw is only reachable through the web interface by an account holding at least low privileges, compensating controls can reduce but not eliminate exposure while patching is scheduled: restrict network access to the Junos Space web UI to a dedicated management VLAN or jump host and block it from user or general-purpose networks (trade-off: administrators outside that network lose direct access and must route through the jump host), and audit/reduce accounts, especially low-privileged ones, removing unused users and enforcing least privilege (trade-off: operational overhead and possible workflow disruption, and it does not stop a legitimate low-privileged user from exploiting the flaw). Review JBoss/Junos Space web logs for unusual GET requests containing encoded or absolute paths as a detection measure (trade-off: noisy and only retroactive). No configuration setting is documented by the vendor that fully mitigates the vulnerability short of upgrading, since the weakness is in default file-serving behavior.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Junos Space is Juniper's network management platform, and its web interface runs on a JBoss application server daemon that is supposed to confine file retrieval to a permitted path. CVE-2025-59976 is a CWE-552 (Files or Directories Accessible to External Parties) weakness combined with path-traversal behavior: specially crafted GET methods cause the daemon to serve files outside the intended document/fetch root, exposing content that low-privileged users should not reach. The vulnerability class is a server-side path restriction failure rather than a memory-safety or injection bug - the request itself is well-formed HTTP; only the path handling is defective. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) and the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector agree that the attack surface is the network-facing web interface, that a low-privileged authenticated account is a prerequisite, that no non-default configuration or user interaction is required, and that the resulting impact is read-only disclosure of files readable by the JBoss daemon process - which may include configuration, credential or other sensitive data over and above the attacker's assigned privilege.

DescriptionCVE.org
An arbitrary file download vulnerability in the web interface of Juniper Networks Junos Space allows a network-based authenticated attacker using a crafted GET method to access any file on the file system. Using specially crafted GET methods, an attacker can gain access to files beyond the file path normally allowed by the JBoss daemon. These files could contain sensitive information restricted from access by low-privileged users. This issue affects all versions of Junos Space before 24.1R3.
Executive ViewAI
Juniper Networks Junos Space deployments running versions before 24.1R3, including 24.1R1 and 24.1R2, are affected by a high-severity file-disclosure flaw that lets an authenticated low-privileged user read arbitrary files from the appliance. With no vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, the primary business risk is unauthorized exposure of sensitive data stored on the appliance, which can affect compliance and security operations. Leadership should ensure affected systems are inventoried, tightly access-controlled, and monitored while tracking Juniper's remediation timeline.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include restricting network access to the Junos Space web interface to trusted management networks, enforcing least privilege and reducing low-privileged accounts, monitoring for crafted GET requests or path-traversal activity, segmenting the appliance from untrusted networks, reviewing sensitive files and credentials stored on the appliance, and applying vendor-provided workarounds or upgrading to 24.1R3 when available.
