| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated Kibana account with privileges to create and run connectors (Alerting/Actions/Connector management) in at least one space. A Crowdstrike connector must already be configured in a separate space so its credentials are cached. The attacker exploits the flaw by creating and running their own Crowdstrike connector in a space they legitimately access, which returns the cached credentials from the other space. Limiting factors: valid authenticated credentials and connector-creation rights are mandatory, a pre-existing Crowdstrike connector with cached credentials must exist in another space, and the deployment must use the Crowdstrike connector feature with a multi-space model - single-space or Crowdstrike-connector-free deployments are not exposed. |
| Impact | This is a moderate, authenticated information-disclosure flaw (CVSS 5.4) in Elastic Kibana's Crowdstrike connector, not a drop-everything emergency. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) indicates a network-reachable but authenticated issue requiring a valid Kibana account with connector privileges, and the scope change (S:C) reflects that credentials cross a space/tenant boundary. Exploitation status: no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV. EPSS is low at 0.23% (13th percentile), consistent with an authenticated, configuration-dependent bug that is unlikely to be mass-exploited. The signals are mutually consistent - low EPSS, no KEV, no POC, moderate CVSS, and an authentication prerequisite all point to a low-to-moderate real-world priority. The notable caveat is the downstream blast radius: although the base confidentiality impact on Kibana is rated Low, the leaked asset is Crowdstrike EDR credentials, which could grant an attacker control over security tooling - so the organizational consequence may exceed what the 5.4 score suggests. I disagree with the vendor's UI:R and I:L choices (see assessed vector); the attacker performs all steps themselves and the primary impact is confidentiality, not integrity. Prioritize patching in environments that use the Kibana Crowdstrike connector across multiple spaces with multi-tenant/least-privilege space models. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged but authenticated Kibana user who has access to one space creates and runs a Crowdstrike connector; because connector credentials are insufficiently isolated and cached, the connector returns Crowdstrike credentials that were configured in a different space the user should not be able to reach. The attacker then reuses those leaked EDR credentials against the organization's Crowdstrike tenant. No public exploit code has been identified, but the technique is straightforward for any user with connector-creation rights. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Credential disclosure in Elastic Kibana's Crowdstrike connector lets an authenticated user who can create and run connectors in one Kibana space read cached Crowdstrike credentials belonging to a connector configured in a different space. Exploitation requires a pre-existing Crowdstrike connector with cached credentials elsewhere in the deployment and a multi-space setup, so single-space or Crowdstrike-connector-free installations are not exposed. The issue carries a CVSS of 5.4 and a very low EPSS of 0.23% (13th percentile); no public exploit code has been identified and the flaw is not in CISA KEV, making this a moderate, authenticated information-disclosure risk rather than an emergency.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patches are available: upgrade Kibana to 8.18.8, 8.19.5, 9.0.8 or 9.1.5 as documented in Elastic advisory ESA-2025-19 (https://discuss.elastic.co/t/kibana-crowdstrike-connector-8-18-8-8-19-5-9-0-8-and-9-1-5-security-update-esa-2025-19/382455). If immediate upgrading is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to remove or disable Crowdstrike connectors that are cached in spaces the attacker cannot legitimately use, since the flaw depends on a pre-existing cached Crowdstrike connector in another space; the trade-off is loss of Crowdstrike alert/action integration until patched. Additionally, restrict Kibana roles so that only trusted administrators hold connector-creation and execution privileges (Alerting/Actions/Connector management), which removes the required prerequisite, at the cost of a narrower connector-management workflow. Rotating the Crowdstrike API credentials used by the connector limits the value of any credentials already leaked through this path. Migrating to a single-space deployment also removes the cross-space exposure, but may conflict with existing multi-tenant space designs. Authentication requirements are confirmed by the CVSS vector (PR:L), meaning an attacker must already hold a valid, low-privileged Kibana account in addition to connector-creation rights.
Affected ProductsAI
Elastic Kibana installations that use the Crowdstrike connector are affected: versions before 8.18.8 in the 8.18.x line, before 8.19.5 in the 8.19.x line, before 9.0.8 in the 9.0.x line, and before 9.1.5 in the 9.1.x line; 8.18.8, 8.19.5, 9.0.8 and 9.1.5 are the patched releases. Exposure additionally requires the deployment to use Kibana spaces (a multi-space model) and to have at least one Crowdstrike connector already configured and cached in a space separate from the one the attacker can use. Technical ContextAI · show details
Kibana's connector (Alerting/Actions) framework stores per-connector configuration, including Crowdstrike API credentials, and caches that material in the Kibana backend. CWE-522 (Insufficiently Protected Credentials) describes the root cause: the cached Crowdstrike credentials are not adequately scoped or isolated to the Kibana space in which the connector was created, so the credential-lookup path used when a connector runs can resolve credentials belonging to a connector in a different space. In practice an attacker who holds a legitimate Kibana account with privileges to create and execute connectors creates their own Crowdstrike connector in a space they can access and has it run, which causes the backend to return the cached credentials from the other space. Because the leak crosses space boundaries, the assessed vector uses scope-changed (S:C) and confidentiality-only impact (C:L, I:N), and the affected code path lives in the Crowdstrike connector implementation shipped with Kibana versions in the 8.18.x, 8.19.x, 9.0.x and 9.1.x lines.

DescriptionCVE.org
Insufficiently Protected Credentials in the Crowdstrike connector can lead to Crowdstrike credentials being leaked. A malicious user can access cached credentials from a Crowdstrike connector in another space by creating and running a Crowdstrike connector in a space to which they have access.
