| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires: (1) local access with the ability to execute binaries on a macOS host (AV:L); (2) an affected build - LibreOffice on macOS 25.2 before 25.2.4 (Linux/Windows unaffected); and (3) the critical attack requirement (AT:P) that the user has previously granted TCC permissions (e.g. Full Disk Access, Documents, camera, contacts) to the LibreOffice application bundle - if no TCC grants exist, there are no inherited privileges to abuse. The attacker gains only whatever TCC scope the user already approved for LibreOffice, nothing more. Limiting factors: no remote vector, attacker must already have local code-execution capability, and the payoff is bounded entirely by the user's existing TCC grants to the app. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority issue, and the signals are consistent rather than conflicting. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 score is 0.9 (Low), driven by AV:L (local attack vector - the attacker must already be able to run code on the Mac), AT:P (a specific attack requirement: the user must have previously granted TCC permissions to the LibreOffice bundle), and PR:L (low privileges required). The only impact is SC:H - confidentiality of subsequent/other systems/resources protected by macOS TCC (e.g. files, contacts, camera) - with no integrity or availability impact (VI:N/VA:N) and no direct impact on the vulnerable component itself (VC:N). EPSS reinforces low real-world risk at 0.14% (3rd percentile). There is NO CISA KEV listing and NO public exploit - the CVSS exploit-maturity metric is explicitly E:U (unreported). All signals agree: this is a local privilege/permission-boundary weakness that is only meaningful to an attacker who already has local code execution on a Mac where the user granted TCC permissions to LibreOffice. It is correctly a low-CVSS, low-real-risk issue, not an urgent priority. Note the CWE-288 (authentication bypass) framing is slightly generous - functionally this is a TCC permission-inheritance / confused-deputy problem rather than a classic auth bypass. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker with local, low-privilege access to a macOS host running an affected LibreOffice version directly invokes the Python interpreter bundled inside the LibreOffice.app bundle. Because that interpreter inherits the TCC permissions the user granted to LibreOffice, the attacker's scripts gain access to TCC-protected resources (such as files, contacts, or camera) that their own process would otherwise be denied. No public exploit identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 07, 2026
LibreOffice on macOS 25.2 up to (but not including) 25.2.4 bundles a Python interpreter that inherits the Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) permissions the user previously granted to the LibreOffice application bundle, so an attacker who can already execute binaries locally can launch that interpreter directly and run scripts under the application's TCC privileges - for example the same Full Disk Access, Documents, contacts, or camera scope the user approved for LibreOffice. The payoff is bounded entirely by pre-existing TCC grants: if the user never granted LibreOffice any sensitive TCC scope, there is nothing to inherit, which is why the vendor's CVSS 4.0 vector carries Attack Requirements: Present and scores only 0.9, and our independent assessment rates this as a genuinely low-priority, locally-scoped confidentiality issue (CVSS 3.1 AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N), with no integrity or availability impact. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no CISA KEV listing; EPSS is 0.14% (3rd percentile), so exploitation is not observed in the wild. Linux and Windows builds of LibreOffice are unaffected.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: LibreOffice 25.2.4 or later for macOS, which applies parent constraints that allow only the main application bundle to launch the interpreter with TCC-attributed privileges. Upgrading is the only complete fix and the only mitigation that preserves normal functionality; verify the installed build in LibreOffice under About LibreOffice and confirm the version is 25.2.4 or higher, referring to the advisory at https://www.libreoffice.org/about-us/security/advisories/cve-2025-14714 for the vendor's exact guidance. Until upgrading is possible, the effective compensating control is to reduce the privilege surface the bug can inherit: open System Settings > Privacy & Security and revoke LibreOffice from any granted categories (Full Disk Access, Files and Folders, Contacts, Camera, Microphone, Accessibility), which removes the attacker's payoff entirely - the trade-off is that legitimate LibreOffice features that depend on those permissions will stop working until re-granted for the patched build. Because the attack requires an attacker to already execute code locally, hardening standard local-access controls (unique per-user accounts, no untrusted users or processes with execution rights on the workstation, macOS Gatekeeper and app-notarization enforcement) is complementary but not a substitute for the patch. Do not rely on signature verification of downloaded installers as a mitigation for this issue, since the vulnerable interpreter is inside the already-trusted bundle; no public exploit code has been identified, so no detection-specific IOCs are available, and monitoring should instead focus on unexpected child processes launched from inside the LibreOffice application bundle.

Technical ContextAI · show details
On macOS, TCC (Transparency, Consent, and Control) is the system privacy framework that gates access to protected resources such as Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Full Disk Access, camera, microphone, and contacts. TCC grants are attributed to a signed application bundle rather than to the individual executable process, and macOS decides which bundle is 'responsible' for a child process using code-signing and parent-process attribution. LibreOffice's macOS build ships an embedded Python interpreter inside the application bundle; when that interpreter is executed directly, macOS attributes it to the LibreOffice bundle, which had already been granted privileges by the user, so the process effectively inherits the application's approved TCC scope. This is CWE-288 (Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path or Channel): the interpreter offers an alternate execution path that reaches the privileged state without going through the intended gated entry point. The upstream fix introduces parent constraints so that the bundled interpreter is only permitted to run with the application's TCC attribution when launched by the main application, closing the alternate path. The attack is local-only (the CVSS 4.0 vector is AV:L with PR:L and AT:P) and requires the attacker to already hold the ability to execute binaries on the host plus the precondition that the user granted LibreOffice meaningful TCC permissions; the leaked capability is exactly that previously approved scope, nothing broader.

DescriptionCVE.org
An Authentication Bypass vulnerability existed where the application bundled an interpreter (Python) that inherits the Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) permissions granted by the user to the main application bundle
By executing the bundled interpreter directly the attacker's scripts run with the application's TCC privileges
In fixed versions parent-constraints are used to allow only the main application to launch interpreter with those permissions
This issue affects LibreOffice on macOS: from 25.2 before < 25.2.4.
