| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the victim to open a maliciously crafted DOC file within PDFsam Enhanced (version 7.0.76.15222 confirmed affected), or visit a page that delivers such a file. The root condition is that PDFsam Enhanced's DOC-processing feature executes embedded dangerous script without displaying a user warning (CWE-356). Limiting factors: it is not remotely triggerable without victim action (UI:R), the attack is local (AV:L) - the attacker cannot reach the target over the network alone - and success depends on the user being induced to open attacker-supplied content; the vendor also rates attack complexity as High, implying the ideal attack may not always succeed. |
| Impact | Signals are sparse and point to a moderate, user-interaction-gated threat rather than an urgent priority. The vendor (Trend Micro ZDI) CVSS:3.0 vector is AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H (7.0), meaning a local attack delivered via a malicious file/page that the victim must open, with full compromise in the user's context. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit were provided, so there is no evidence of active or opportunistic exploitation - consistent with a ZDI coordinated disclosure rather than an in-the-wild finding. The one point of internal tension is the vendor's AC:H: the described defect (DOC processing executes dangerous script with no user warning, CWE-356) reads as deterministic once a crafted file is opened, which argues for lower complexity; I rate it AC:L below, so ZDI's AC:H may be conservative or reflect undisclosed preconditions - verify with the advisory. Net: real but not emergency - patch on a normal cadence, prioritize by how many users actually run PDFsam Enhanced. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a malicious DOC file (or a web page that serves one) and uses social engineering to get a PDFsam Enhanced user to open it. Because the DOC-processing path executes embedded/dangerous script without presenting a safety warning, code runs automatically in the context of the current user. No public proof-of-concept was identified at the time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026
PDFsam Enhanced 7.0.76.15222 can execute dangerous embedded script from a crafted DOC file without displaying a user warning, leading to code execution in the context of the current user. Exploitation requires local access (AV:L), no privileges (PR:N), and user interaction (UI:R); no public exploit code or KEV entry was identified at time of analysis, making this a moderate, user-gated risk.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was identified at time of analysis; monitor the ZDI advisory (ZDI-25-1090) and PDFsam Enhanced vendor channels for a fixed version. Until a patch is available, avoid opening DOC files from untrusted sources in PDFsam Enhanced. If the product offers a setting to disable DOC handling or embedded script execution, disable it (side effect: loss of DOC conversion/editing functionality). Process untrusted DOC files in a sandboxed or low-privilege environment, and restrict DOC processing to trusted documents only.

Technical ContextAI · show details
PDFsam Enhanced is a PDF editing and conversion suite; version 7.0.76.15222 (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:pdfsam:enhanced:7.0.76.15222) is affected. The flaw is in DOC file processing: the application executes embedded dangerous script without warning the user (CWE-356, insufficient UI warning for unsafe actions). Our assessment applies CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, while the vendor's original CVSS 3.0 vector rated AC:H, indicating the ideal exploit may not always succeed. The attacker must convince the victim to open a crafted DOC file or visit a page that delivers one, after which code runs in the user's context.

Severity by source
AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
AV:L and UI:R because the victim must open a local malicious file; PR:N as no authentication is needed; AC:L since script executes deterministically with no warning.

DescriptionCVE.org
PDFsam Enhanced DOC File Insufficient UI Warning Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of PDFsam Enhanced. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the processing of DOC files. The issue results from allowing the execution of dangerous script without user warning. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user. Was ZDI-CAN-27499.
Executive ViewAI
PDFsam Enhanced 7.0.76.15222 exposes users who open crafted DOC files to code execution under their own account without a warning, potentially compromising endpoint data and credentials accessible to that user. Because the issue requires local access and user interaction, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, near-term organizational risk is concentrated among staff who routinely open external documents; leadership should care because no vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis, so remediation depends on interim controls and user behavior.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Restrict or remove PDFsam Enhanced 7.0.76.15222 for users who handle external DOC files; enforce application allowlisting and least privilege; block or quarantine untrusted DOC attachments; monitor endpoint telemetry for PDFsam spawning unusual processes; require users to open untrusted documents only in an isolated or alternative approved viewer.
