| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the victim load an attacker-controlled checkpoint file (infer_config.ckpt_path) through the create_pipeline function, which pre-patch called torch.load without weights_only=True, allowing arbitrary pickle deserialization. The required precondition is therefore user interaction (UI:R): a user must be socially engineered into opening/loading a malicious model file or visiting a page that triggers that load - there is no unauthenticated network path. Limiting factors: local attack vector (AV:L), mandatory user interaction, and the need for the attacker to deliver a crafted checkpoint; the root-context impact applies only where MimicMotion is run as root. Patched versions gate loading with torch.serialization.safe_globals and weights_only=True, neutralizing arbitrary pickle execution. |
| Impact | This is a CWE-502 untrusted deserialization flaw in Tencent MimicMotion's create_pipeline function, which calls torch.load on an attacker-controllable checkpoint path. The provided CVSS:3.0 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R) is internally consistent and worth reconciling with the ZDI title, which labels this 'Remote Code Execution': the vector is LOCAL (AV:L) because exploitation hinges on the victim loading a malicious model/checkpoint file, not on a network-facing service - the 'remote' framing refers to attacker-supplied content delivered to the victim, not an unauthenticated network attack. PR:N means no prior privileges are needed, but UI:R (user interaction required) is the key limiting factor: a human must open the malicious file/visit a page that triggers the load. Severity is high (C:H/I:H/A:H, code execution 'in the context of root' per the description). EPSS is low at 0.51% (42nd percentile), there is NO CISA KEV listing, and no public POC is referenced - so despite the high CVSS, real-world opportunistic exploitation pressure is currently modest and depends on social-engineering a victim into loading a weaponized checkpoint. No SSVC decision data was provided in the input, so automatable/exploitation-status cannot be derived from SSVC. Net: a genuine high-impact RCE, but gated behind user interaction and a niche AI-research deployment footprint rather than a drop-everything internet-wide emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker publishes or shares a malicious PyTorch model checkpoint (a pickle payload) on a model hub, repo, or via a link. A MimicMotion user is tricked into loading it through create_pipeline, where torch.load deserializes the untrusted pickle and executes the embedded payload as root. No public exploit is referenced, but the technique (malicious pickle in torch.load without weights_only) is well-understood; local vector and low attack complexity make execution reliable once the file is opened. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026
Tencent MimicMotion's create_pipeline function deserializes attacker-controlled checkpoint files through torch.load without weights_only=True, enabling arbitrary code execution when a victim loads a malicious model file. The flaw is local-vector and requires user interaction (CVSS 7.8, AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R), with code running at the privileges of the MimicMotion process-root-level impact only when the tool is run as root. An upstream commit adds safe_globals and weights_only=True; no public exploit was identified at time of analysis, and EPSS is 0.51% (42nd percentile).
RemediationAI
Apply the upstream fix commit 6907bdcc259a6a048d41a365e840d22274f9256c, which adds torch.serialization.safe_globals and weights_only=True to checkpoint loading, or upgrade to a tagged MimicMotion release that contains it once available; the commit is at https://github.com/Tencent/MimicMotion/commit/6907bdcc259a6a048d41a365e840d22274f9256c and the ZDI advisory is at https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-25-1032/. Until a patched release is confirmed, load only trusted checkpoint files and avoid opening model files from untrusted sources-this limits functionality for legitimate third-party model sharing but blocks the deserialization path. Run MimicMotion under a least-privilege account rather than root to reduce the impact of code execution, noting that device and file-permission adjustments may be needed for GPU or model-cache access.
Affected ProductsAI
Tencent MimicMotion installations containing the vulnerable create_pipeline function in mimicmotion/utils/loader.py, which loads checkpoint files via torch.load without weights_only=True, are affected. The upstream fix is commit 6907bdcc259a6a048d41a365e840d22274f9256c; no CPE strings or discrete released-version numbers were provided in the input, so the exact released-version range is not independently confirmed. Consult the GitHub commit (https://github.com/Tencent/MimicMotion/commit/6907bdcc259a6a048d41a365e840d22274f9256c) and ZDI advisory ZDI-25-1032 (https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-25-1032/) for vendor-side details.

Technical ContextAI · show details
This is a CWE-502 deserialization-of-untrusted-data issue in Tencent MimicMotion's Python model-loading path. The create_pipeline function in mimicmotion/utils/loader.py loads the user-supplied infer_config.ckpt_path via torch.load; before the fix, the absence of weights_only=True allowed PyTorch's pickle-based checkpoint deserialization to instantiate arbitrary objects and execute code. The upstream patch gates loading with torch.serialization.safe_globals and weights_only=True, restricting which globals may be resolved during unpickling. No CPE identifiers were supplied in the input; the vulnerable component is the PyTorch checkpoint-loading code, and exploitation depends on delivering a crafted checkpoint file or page that causes the target to load it rather than on an unauthenticated network service path.

Exploitation needs no attacker privileges (PR:N) but depends on the victim loading a malicious checkpoint file, so AV:L and UI:R; pickle RCE yields full C/I/A impact in the process context.

DescriptionCVE.org
Tencent MimicMotion create_pipeline Deserialization of Untrusted Data Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Tencent MimicMotion. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the create_pipeline function. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in deserialization of untrusted data. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of root. Was ZDI-CAN-27208.
Executive ViewAI
Tencent MimicMotion, an AI video-generation tool, can execute arbitrary code when a user loads a malicious checkpoint file, putting model experimentation teams and shared AI infrastructure at risk. Because the tool is often run with elevated privileges and users routinely download third-party models, a single crafted file could compromise the host and any data or credentials it can reach. Leadership should treat this as an AI supply-chain exposure and prioritize controls around model provenance and least-privilege execution.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: avoid loading untrusted or unverified MimicMotion checkpoint files; run MimicMotion with least privilege and never as root; isolate model-loading workloads in containers or VMs with restricted network and filesystem access; enforce file provenance and integrity checks; apply the upstream commit that adds safe_globals and weights_only=True where feasible; monitor for suspicious model files.
