DescriptionCVE.org

An issue was discovered on Renesas SmartBond DA14691, DA14695, DA14697, and DA14699 devices. The bootrom function responsible for validating the Flash Product Header directly uses a user-controllable size value (Length of Flash Config Section) to control a read from the QSPI device into a fixed sized buffer, resulting in a buffer overflow and execution of arbitrary code.

AnalysisAI

An issue was discovered on Renesas SmartBond DA14691, DA14695, DA14697, and DA14699 devices. Rated medium severity (CVSS 6.8), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable. No vendor patch available.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Buffer Copy without Size Check (CWE-120), which allows attackers to overflow a buffer to corrupt adjacent memory. Affected ProductsAI

See vendor advisory for affected versions.

RemediationAI

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Always validate buffer sizes before copy operations. Use bounded functions (strncpy, snprintf). Enable compiler protections.
