DescriptionNVD

stb_image is a single file MIT licensed library for processing images. A crafted image file may trigger out of bounds memcpy read in stbi__gif_load_next. This happens because two_back points to a memory address lower than the start of the buffer out. This issue may be used to leak internal memory allocation information.

AnalysisAI

stb_image is a single file MIT licensed library for processing images. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.1), this vulnerability is no authentication required, low attack complexity. This Out-of-bounds Read vulnerability could allow attackers to read data from memory outside the intended buffer boundaries.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Read (CWE-125), which allows attackers to read data from memory outside the intended buffer boundaries. stb_image is a single file MIT licensed library for processing images. A crafted image file may trigger out of bounds memcpy read in stbi__gif_load_next. This happens because two_back points to a memory address lower than the start of the buffer out. This issue may be used to leak internal memory allocation information. Affected products include: Nothings Stb Image.H.

RemediationAI

A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Validate array indices and buffer lengths. Use memory-safe languages. Enable AddressSanitizer during testing.
