Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: misc: fastrpc: fix memory corruption on probe Add the missing sanity check on the probed-session count to avoid corrupting memory beyond the fixed-size slab-allocated session array when there are more than FASTRPC_MAX_SESSIONS sessions defined in the devicetree.
Analysis
Memory corruption vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fastrpc driver that occurs during device probe when the devicetree defines more sessions than the FASTRPC_MAX_SESSIONS compile-time limit. The driver allocates a fixed-size array for FASTRPC_MAX_SESSIONS entries but fails to validate that the devicetree does not specify more sessions, leading to a classic heap buffer overflow (CWE-787: Out-of-bounds Write). This affects the misc/fastrpc subsystem in drivers/misc/fastrpc.c. The root cause is insufficient input validation on untrusted devicetree data during kernel initialization, allowing kernel memory corruption before security checks are applied.
Affected Products
