DescriptionNVD

An out-of-bounds read flaw was found in the QXL display device emulation in QEMU. The qxl_phys2virt() function does not check the size of the structure pointed to by the guest physical address, potentially reading past the end of the bar space into adjacent pages. A malicious guest user could use this flaw to crash the QEMU process on the host causing a denial of service condition.

AnalysisAI

An out-of-bounds read flaw was found in the QXL display device emulation in QEMU. Rated medium severity (CVSS 6.5), this vulnerability is low attack complexity.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Read (CWE-125), which allows attackers to read data from memory outside the intended buffer boundaries. Affected products include: Qemu, Fedoraproject Extra Packages For Enterprise Linux, Fedoraproject Fedora, Redhat Enterprise Linux.

RemediationAI

A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Validate array indices and buffer lengths. Use memory-safe languages. Enable AddressSanitizer during testing.
