Exploitation Conditions

Applies only to self-hosted Plane deployments running a version prior to 1.4.0, where the WorkspaceJoinEndpoint (api/workspaces/{slug}/invitations/{pk}/join/) serves unauthenticated GET requests and the pre-fix WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer exposes the token and get_invite_link fields - this is the default behavior, no special feature toggle is required. The practical limiting factor is that the attacker must know or successfully enumerate a valid workspace slug and a pending invitation's primary key (pk) to retrieve a usable token, and the stolen access is bounded to the specific role assigned to that invitation rather than arbitrary privilege. No authentication and no user interaction are required (PR:N/UI:N).

Impact

This is a moderate, real-but-not-urgent issue. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N, base 6.5) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw with partial confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact - consistent with the CWE-200 information-disclosure classification and the description of an unauthenticated GET leaking a secret invitation token. No EPSS score, KEV listing, SSVC decision, or POC was provided in the input, so there is no signal of active exploitation or automated weaponization: exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The main factor that tempers the PR:N/AC:L reading is that successful exploitation requires knowing or enumerating a valid invitation primary key (pk) and workspace slug for a pending invite, and the impact is bounded to the role assigned to that specific invitation rather than full admin takeover - so this is a targeted membership-hijack / token-leak issue, not a wormable mass-compromise. Net: a legitimate patch-priority item for self-hosted Plane operators (especially those with open signup or sensitive workspaces), but not a drop-everything emergency absent exploitation evidence.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An external attacker who learns or enumerates a pending invitation's identifier sends an unauthenticated GET to api/workspaces/{slug}/invitations/{pk}/join/, and the WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer returns the secret invitation token (directly and via get_invite_link). The attacker then submits that token to the invitation-acceptance flow to join the victim's workspace with the invited role, without ever having received the invitation. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 13, 2026

Unauthenticated token disclosure in self-hosted Plane deployments before version 1.4.0 lets a remote attacker fetch a pending workspace invitation's secret token from the WorkspaceJoinEndpoint (GET api/workspaces/{slug}/invitations/{pk}/join/) and redeem it, joining the workspace under the role assigned to that invitation (CVSS 6.5, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N). The pre-fix WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer returned the 'token' and 'invite_link' fields on a read-only, unauthenticated GET, so the only practical prerequisites are knowing or enumerating a valid workspace slug and a pending invite's primary key; the resulting access is bounded to the invited role rather than full administrative takeover. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and the issue is fixed in Plane 1.4.0, making this a moderate, real-but-not-urgent finding for teams running outdated self-hosted instances.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Plane 1.4.0, which replaces the leaking WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer with the token-free WorkSpaceMemberInvitePublicSerializer and requires an authenticated session whose email matches the invite on the acceptance POST; see the release at https://github.com/makeplane/plane/releases/tag/v1.4.0 and the advisory at https://github.com/makeplane/plane/security/advisories/GHSA-gf48-p6jp-cwc4. Until the upgrade can be applied, the most effective compensating control is to block or require authentication for the route pattern /api/workspaces/*/invitations/*/join/ at the reverse proxy or API gateway - the trade-off being that the legitimate, unauthenticated invite-join flow for new users will break until the proxy exception is removed after patching. A second option is to invalidate exposure at the source by removing or re-issuing any outstanding pending workspace invitations, since a token can only be abused while a matching invite row exists; the trade-off is that already-invited users must be re-invited once the instance is upgraded to 1.4.0. Because exploitation depends on knowing a workspace slug and a pending invitation primary key, restricting external network access to the self-hosted instance (VPN, IP allowlist, or an SSO/identity-aware proxy in front of the whole API) meaningfully reduces exposure, though it degrades usability for remote team members. Applying the upstream commit 6220ba990b2276a1a1979d1d5df68f650b8b47ad to a 1.3.x branch is possible for teams that cannot move to 1.4.0 immediately, but carries the usual risk of an unsupported backport; there is no configuration toggle that disables the vulnerable serializer in unpatched builds, so patching or blocking the endpoint is required.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Plane is an open-source, Django-based project management platform whose REST API is built with Django REST Framework. The flaw is a CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor) issue in the invitation flow: the WorkspaceJoinEndpoint view (apps/api/plane/app/views/workspace/invite.py) served unauthenticated GET requests and serialized the invite object with WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer, which included the acceptance 'token' field and a derived get_invite_link value. Because the acceptance logic trusted possession of that token alone, anyone who could reach the endpoint and supply a workspace slug plus the invitation's primary key could take over the invite. The upstream fix (PR #9297, commit 6220ba990b2276a1a1979d1d5df68f650b8b47ad, released in v1.4.0) introduces a dedicated WorkSpaceMemberInvitePublicSerializer that deliberately omits token and invite_link and marks all exposed fields read-only, and additionally hardens the POST acceptance path by requiring an authenticated session and verifying that the authenticated user's email matches the invitation's email before the membership is granted. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:makeplane:plane:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* tracks the affected product line across all pre-1.4.0 builds. The exposed data is an invitation secret rather than credentials or workspace content, which is why the confidentiality and integrity impacts are each rated Low.

DescriptionCVE.org

Plane is an open-source project management tool. Prior to 1.4.0, self-hosted Plane deployments allow unauthenticated GET requests to api/workspaces/{slug}/invitations/{pk}/join/ through WorkspaceJoinEndpoint, whose WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer exposes the secret invitation token directly and through get_invite_link. An external attacker can retrieve a token intended for another user and submit it to the invitation acceptance flow, joining the workspace without receiving the invitation and gaining the role assigned to the invite. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.0.
