Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated session with high (administrative) privileges on the NR268 web management interface; the attacker then invokes the DDNS Handler endpoint ddns_wan_list_show.cgi (function ddns_wan_list_show), which returns stored DDNS account credentials in the user_idN/passwordN parameters. Limiting factors: the attacker must already possess admin access (PR:H), only DDNS credentials are exposed (no system-wide confidentiality loss, no integrity/availability impact), and exposure is meaningful only when DDNS is actually configured with stored credentials. The endpoint is network-reachable (AV:N) and requires no user interaction (UI:N).

Impact

This is a low-priority issue despite being a publicly disclosed, remotely reachable flaw. The CVSS 4.0 base score of 2.0 is driven primarily by PR:H - exploitation requires an attacker to already hold high-privilege (administrative) access to the NR268 web interface - and by VC:L/VI:N/VA:N, meaning only a limited confidentiality loss (disclosure of stored DDNS account credentials via user_idN/passwordN) with no integrity or availability impact. Signals are internally consistent: AV:N/AC:L/UI:N indicate the endpoint is network-reachable and trivially triggered once authenticated, while E:P reflects that proof-of-concept exploit code exists. There is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score was provided in the input, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation. The net picture is a genuine but minor post-authentication information-disclosure bug: an already-privileged admin (or someone who has otherwise compromised the admin session) can read DDNS credentials. The main residual concern is credential reuse - exposed DDNS passwords could aid lateral movement - but the PR:H precondition makes this a secondary-impact issue rather than an urgent remediation target.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who has gained administrative access to a Netcore NR268 router (via default/weak credentials, session hijack, or another flaw) requests the ddns_wan_list_show.cgi endpoint and reads back the stored DDNS account identifiers and passwords (user_idN/passwordN) in the response. A public proof-of-concept documenting this disclosure exists on GitHub. Because PR:H is required, this is realistically a privilege-amplification/credential-harvesting step rather than an initial remote compromise.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026

Stored DDNS account credentials on Netcore NR268 routers running firmware 1.7.121109 are disclosed through the DDNS Handler endpoint ddns_wan_list_show.cgi (function ddns_wan_list_show), which returns the user_idN and passwordN values for configured dynamic DNS providers. Exploitation requires an already-authenticated session with high (administrative) privileges on the web management interface (CVSS vector PR:H), so the flaw is primarily a credential-exposure issue for attackers who have already obtained admin access rather than a direct path to compromise; there is no integrity or availability impact and confidentiality loss is limited. Publicly available exploit code exists - a proof-of-concept write-up is hosted on GitHub - but there is no indication of active exploitation (not listed in CISA KEV), and the assessed CVSS 3.1 score is 4.9-equivalent impact-wise with a base of AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, making this a low-priority issue despite the remote reachability and public disclosure.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis, and Netcore did not respond to the disclosure, so remediation must be compensatory. Because the flaw only exposes DDNS credentials to an already-authenticated administrator, the highest-value actions are (1) restrict access to the NR268 web management interface so that only trusted administrative hosts/networks can reach it - bind management to a dedicated VLAN or management network and block TCP/80 and TCP/443 from WAN and untrusted LAN segments; trade-off: remote administration becomes inconvenient and requires a jump host or VPN; (2) disable the DDNS feature entirely if it is not needed, which eliminates the stored secrets the endpoint returns; trade-off: dynamic DNS hostname resolution is lost; (3) if DDNS must remain enabled, rotate all DDNS provider account passwords after any suspected exposure and use unique, non-reused credentials for each provider; (4) where a reverse proxy or WAF fronts the device, deny requests to /ddns_wan_list_show.cgi from non-allowlisted source addresses; trade-off: brittle if the path or firmware changes; (5) limit the number of accounts with administrative privileges and audit the router's access logs for unexpected requests to ddns_wan_list_show.cgi. Monitor the VulDB entries (https://vuldb.com/vuln/416754 and https://vuldb.com/cve/CVE-2026-108930) for a vendor fix and apply it as soon as one is published.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerable component is the DDNS (Dynamic DNS) handler of the Netcore NR268 router's embedded web management interface. The CGI script ddns_wan_list_show.cgi exposes a function that renders the list of configured WAN DDNS entries; the interface takes user_idN and passwordN parameters, and these stored DDNS provider credentials are emitted in the response without adequate protection. This is classified as CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor): the root cause is that a management endpoint returns sensitive stored secrets to a caller who already holds administrative session privileges, rather than scoping or masking credential fields. The affected product is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:netcore:nr268:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* (all versions, with firmware 1.7.121109 explicitly reported). Vulnerability class: information disclosure of third-party DDNS account secrets, which could enable account takeover at the DDNS provider or facilitate lateral activity if credentials are reused, but which does not itself grant code execution or router control.
