Network-reachable fetch route, low complexity, requires low-privilege access to the upload component (PR:L); full response readback gives C:H, no integrity impact, minor availability from stored transfer files.

DescriptionCVE.org

Malcolm file-upload component ships the upstream FilePond PHP server (pqina/filepond-server-php) largely unmodified: Dockerfile copies all upstream *.php files and Malcolm only overwrites config.php and submit.php. Upstream index.php exposes a fetch API route that instructs the server to download an arbitrary URL with curl (including FOLLOWLOCATION) and, for HEAD requests, stores the fetched response body in the upload container's transfer directory and returns the transfer ID to the caller, enabling full readback of the fetched content.

AnalysisAI

Server-side request forgery (SSRF) in the Malcolm file-upload component allows authenticated low-privilege attackers to force the server to download arbitrary URLs via the unmodified upstream FilePond PHP fetch API route, then read back the fetched content through the transfer directory. The flaw, identified as CWE-918, affects Malcolm deployments using the file-upload feature and can expose internal network services or cloud metadata due to curl's FOLLOWLOCATION behavior. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires reaching the upstream FilePond PHP server's fetch API route exposed by index.php, which Malcolm ships unmodified (its Dockerfile copies all upstream *.php files and only overwrites config.php and submit.php). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:L, base 7.1) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity server-side request forgery (CWE-918) that requires low-level privileges (PR:L) and no user interaction. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; consult the vendor advisory GHSA-cvx2-hj33-vc4q and ICS-CERT advisory ICSA-26-280-01 for updates. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, confirm which Malcolm hosts have the file-upload feature enabled and whether the FilePond PHP fetch API route is externally or broadly reachable, restrict access to that endpoint to a minimal set of trusted administrators, and enable egress filtering so Malcolm appliances cannot initiate outbound connections to internal RFC1918 ranges, link-local addresses, or the cloud metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254) except where explicitly required. …
