Single crafted request (AC:L, AV:N) but needs a valid low-privilege account (PR:L); impact kept at C:L/I:L/A:N matching vendor, though admin-endpoint access could justify higher.

Malcolm's nginx Lua role-based access control (RBAC) layer decides whether an authenticated user may reach a role-restricted path (e.g. /htadmin, /auth, /admin_login, /arkime/api/esadmin, NetBox, upload endpoints) by pattern-matching the raw, percent-encoded request URI. Nginx itself, however, selects which location block actually serves the request using the percent-decoded, normalized URI. Because the RBAC check never percent-decodes its input, an authenticated low-privilege user can request an admin-only path using percent-encoding (e.g. /%68tadmin.php) and have nginx route it to the restricted location while the Lua RBAC gate evaluating the un-decoded raw string finds no matching restriction and grants access.
AnalysisAI
Incorrect authorization in CISA Malcolm allows an authenticated low-privilege user to reach admin-only paths by percent-encoding them, bypassing the nginx Lua role-based access control gate that inspects the raw, undecoded request URI. The flaw affects Malcolm installations using its default nginx plus Lua RBAC reverse-proxy front end (CWE-863; CVSS 5.4, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N), where a request such as /%68tadmin.php is routed by nginx's decoded-URI location matching into the restricted location while the Lua check sees no matching restriction and grants access. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires a valid authenticated low-privilege account on the target Malcolm instance (PR:L) and that Malcolm is deployed with its nginx + Lua RBAC reverse-proxy front end gating role-restricted paths such as /htadmin, /auth, /admin_login, /arkime/api/esadmin, NetBox, and upload endpoints (the default Malcolm architecture). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a moderate, authenticated authorization-bypass (CWE-863) carrying a vendor CVSS of 5.4 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Patch status is not specified in the available intelligence for CVE-2026-107334; consult the vendor advisory GHSA-jr6p-63pg-hr6g and the CISA ICS advisory ICSA-26-280-01 (https://github.com/cisagov/CSAF/blob/develop/csaf_files/OT/white/2026/icsa-26-280-01.json) for the authoritative fixed Malcolm release and upgrade to it as soon as it is published. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
