| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated Pulp user who holds the privilege to create a container remote and initiate a sync, and who can point that remote at an attacker-controlled registry server (PR:L). The specific trigger condition is credential reuse within a single Pulp worker process: basic or bearer credentials captured during one remote's sync are reused for later downloads by the same worker, so the attacker must land a sync on a worker that previously authenticated to a different, higher-value remote - making this most impactful in multi-tenant or shared-remote deployments. Limiting factors: no anonymous/unauthenticated path exists, no code execution or data tampering occurs, and impact is confined to disclosure of upstream-registry credentials; exploitation also depends on the victim remote having stored credentials and sharing worker context with the attacker's sync. |
| Impact | This is a moderate, authentication-gated credential-disclosure flaw rather than a top-tier emergency. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 6.5) is internally consistent with the description: exploitation is network-reachable via the Pulp API but requires an already-authenticated user who holds the privilege to create/sync a container remote (PR:L), with high confidentiality impact (credential theft) and no integrity or availability impact - the description explicitly confirms content is not altered and the service is not stopped, matching I:N/A:N. No EPSS score, KEV listing, POC, or SSVC decision data was provided in the input, so exploitation-likelihood signals are absent rather than low - this means there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The practical limiter is significant: the attacker must be a legitimate Pulp user permitted to configure remotes and sync, so this is primarily an insider / multi-tenant privilege-boundary problem (one tenant harvesting another tenant's upstream registry credentials) rather than an anonymous internet-facing RCE. Note one modeling nuance to verify with Red Hat: because the disclosed credential belongs to a different remote/trust boundary and can be replayed against a separate upstream registry, a case could be made for CVSS scope change (S:C), whereas the input uses S:U; this does not change the 6.5 severity materially but affects how cross-tenant impact is characterized. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged but authenticated Pulp user who is allowed to create and sync container remotes configures a remote pointing at a registry server they control, then triggers a sync on the same worker that previously handled another remote. Because basic/bearer credentials from the earlier remote are reused for subsequent downloads in that worker, the attacker's malicious server receives the victim remote's username, password, or bearer token in the authentication attempt, which they can then replay directly against the legitimate upstream registry. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 07, 2026
Authenticated users with permission to create and sync container remotes in Pulp can obtain upstream registry credentials-usernames, passwords, or bearer tokens-stored for other remotes because the pulp-container worker reuses authentication material across sync operations. This affects deployments built on Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2, Red Hat Satellite 6, and Red Hat Update Infrastructure 4/5, particularly multi-tenant environments where remotes share worker processes. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified; the flaw rates CVSS 6.5 (moderate) and requires no user interaction beyond the attacker's own sync, though it does require an authenticated user with remote-creation and sync privileges.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Until a fix is available, restrict the ability to create and sync container remotes in Pulp to fully trusted administrators only-revoking that permission from untrusted or multi-tenant users reduces the attack surface but limits legitimate self-service repository management. Where feasible, run separate Pulp worker pools for different trust domains or tenants so that credentials from one remote's sync cannot be reused by another remote's worker; this requires infrastructure and configuration changes and may increase operational overhead. Rotate any upstream registry credentials (username/password or bearer tokens) that may have been stored in Pulp, especially if an untrusted user has had remote-creation privileges. Monitor Red Hat’s advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-103868 and the Bugzilla entry at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2544601 for patch availability and apply updates when released.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Pulp is a repository management platform, and its pulp-container plugin syncs container images from upstream registries such as Docker Hub or private registries. During a sync, the plugin authenticates to the upstream registry using basic auth or a bearer token and stores that credential in a worker-level context that persists across operations within the same worker process. This violates CWE-488 (Exposure of Data Element to Wrong Session), because credentials captured for one remote's sync are then reused for subsequent downloads by a later sync on the same worker-even if that later sync belongs to a different remote controlled by a different user. An attacker who can create a container remote and point it at a server they control can therefore receive the credential stored for a different, potentially higher-value remote and replay it at the legitimate upstream registry. The CPE data identifies Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2 (cpe:2.3:a:red_hat:red_hat_ansible_automation_platform_2) and Red Hat Satellite 6 (cpe:2.3:a:red_hat:red_hat_satellite_6) as affected, along with Red Hat Update Infrastructure 4 and 5 per the tags. No code execution, data modification, or denial of service occurs; the impact is limited to credential disclosure, and exploitation requires an authenticated user with remote-creation and sync privileges (PR:L).

Network-reachable API but requires a user with remote-sync privileges (PR:L, AC:L); only credential confidentiality is impacted (C:H, I:N, A:N); S:U retained for consistency though cross-tenant credential reuse arguably supports S:C.

DescriptionCVE.org
A flaw was found in pulp-container when it authenticates to an upstream registry. Basic and bearer credentials from one remote are reused for later downloads in the same worker. A user who can sync a container remote, and can point that remote at a server they control, receives the username, password, or bearer token stored for a different remote, and can reuse that credential at the upstream registry. Content stored in Pulp is not changed, and the service is not stopped.
