Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a victim running Google Chrome on Windows prior to 155.0.8059.39 to actively load attacker-controlled web content (UI:R) that exercises the ANGLE graphics backend; no authentication is required (PR:N). The primary limiting factors are the mandatory user interaction (the victim must visit/render a crafted HTML page) and the fact that the outcome is a bounded memory read (C:L, no integrity or availability impact), making this useful chiefly as an information-disclosure/sandbox-leak primitive rather than direct code execution. It affects default configurations - no special feature toggle is required beyond normal hardware-accelerated graphics via ANGLE.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-urgency issue, not a drop-everything priority. The CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.7 (Medium) is driven by AV:N/AC:L/PR:N (network-reachable, low complexity, no authentication) but held down by UI:R (the victim must open attacker-controlled content), a confidentiality-only impact (C:L/I:N/A:N), and the fact that it only leaks memory. The S:C (scope change) reflects that the uninitialized-memory read crosses the renderer sandbox boundary, which is why Google rates the Chromium severity as High even though the numeric CVSS is Medium - an info leak that defeats the sandbox is valuable as one link in an exploit chain rather than as a standalone compromise. All exploitation signals point the same way: EPSS is 0.19% (8th percentile), there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code was identified in the provided data, so there is no evidence of active or imminent exploitation. No SSVC decision data was supplied. The signals are therefore consistent (low CVSS, low EPSS, no KEV, no POC), with the only tension being Google's internal 'High' rating versus the Medium CVSS - this is normal for sandbox-boundary info leaks and does not imply hidden risk. Treat as routine patch-cycle remediation.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker hosts or injects a crafted HTML page that drives Chrome's ANGLE graphics layer into reading uninitialized memory; when a victim browses to the page, residual process memory contents are leaked back to the attacker. Because exploitation requires the user to load the malicious page (UI:R) and yields only a memory read, it is most plausible as a reconnaissance/info-leak primitive feeding a larger sandbox-escape chain. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 07, 2026

An uninitialized-resource flaw in Chrome's ANGLE graphics abstraction layer on Windows allows a remote attacker who persuades a victim to render a crafted HTML page to read memory that should not be reachable from the renderer, potentially crossing the browser's sandbox boundary. The vulnerability affects Google Chrome on Windows prior to 155.0.8059.39, requires no authentication (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N) but does require user interaction, and is scored 4.7 with scope change because the leaked data can originate outside the sandboxed renderer. There is no public exploit code identified at time of analysis, EPSS is low at 0.19% (8th percentile), and a vendor patch is available.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: Google shipped the fix in Chrome 155.0.8059.39 on the stable channel, so the primary action is to update to 155.0.8059.39 or later via Chrome's built-in updater (chrome://settings/help) or through enterprise software-deployment tooling, then confirm the installed build at chrome://version; details are in the stable-channel advisory at https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2026/10/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_086471744.html. Where immediate upgrading is not possible, the exposure is on the ANGLE/GPU path, so disabling hardware acceleration (chrome://settings/system, turning off 'Use graphics acceleration when available', or launching with --disable-gpu) keeps rendering off the vulnerable backend at the cost of degraded scrolling, video, and WebGL performance; alternatively an enterprise policy blocking WebGL (DefaultWebGLSetting or a WebGL blocklist) removes the most direct route to the flaw while breaking WebGL-dependent sites and applications. Because patch data confirms vendor availability but no version beyond the stable-channel build is supplied, do not assume intermediate 155.x builds are fixed until verified against the advisory, and treat the issue as an information-disclosure primitive rather than an urgent exploitation event - no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and EPSS is 0.19%.

Technical ContextAI · show details

ANGLE (Almost Native Graphics Layer Engine) is the translation layer Chrome uses to map the OpenGL ES and WebGL APIs onto the platform's native Direct3D backend on Windows, and it sits beneath the GPU process rather than the renderer. The root cause is CWE-908 (Use of Uninitialized Resource): a resource - most plausibly a heap or GPU-shared buffer used during shader translation or command-buffer handling - is allocated and then returned or exposed without having been fully written, so the caller receives stale contents of process memory rather than attacker-controlled data. Because ANGLE code runs with GPU-process privileges that are less restricted than the renderer sandbox in Chrome's multi-process model, the information leak is scored with a scope change (S:C) even though confidentiality impact is limited (C:L) and there is no integrity or availability impact. The sole CPE entry, cpe:2.3:a:google:chrome:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, together with EUVD's version note, confines the issue to Chrome builds on Windows below 155.0.8059.39; ANGLE is enabled by default in normal hardware-accelerated configurations, so no special feature flag is needed to reach the vulnerable path.
