Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated account holding delegated RealmAdmin privileges and a multi-realm (multi-tenant) OpenAM deployment on a version before 16.1.3; the attacker invokes the sessions REST endpoint query operation and supplies a _queryFilter that names a realm other than their own to read that realm's session data. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: the attacker must already be a provisioned realm administrator (PR:H, not anonymous), the instance must host more than one realm for cross-tenant disclosure to be meaningful, and single-realm/single-tenant deployments are effectively unaffected. No end-user interaction is required (UI:N), and impact is confined to confidentiality (session identifiers and account identifiers), not modification or disruption.

Impact

This is a medium-severity information-disclosure flaw (CVE-2026-105120, CWE-200) whose real-world priority is bounded primarily by its privilege requirement. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) correctly reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity attack with high confidentiality impact but NO integrity or availability impact, and critically PR:H - the attacker must already hold delegated RealmAdmin privileges. This is therefore an insider/trust-boundary problem (a semi-trusted realm administrator escalating visibility across tenant boundaries) rather than an anonymous internet attack. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active or automatable exploitation. No SSVC decision data was supplied. The signals are internally consistent - the description's 'realm administrators'/'delegated RealmAdmin privileges' language matches the vector's PR:H, so there is no network-vs-local or privilege conflict to flag. Bottom line: a legitimate, verifiable authorization-bypass bug that matters acutely for multi-tenant OpenAM operators but is not a drop-everything, mass-exploitation threat given the required privileged foothold and confidentiality-only impact.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A managed-service or hosting provider runs a single OpenAM instance serving multiple customer realms, and delegates RealmAdmin rights to each tenant for self-service. A malicious or compromised tenant administrator sends a crafted query to the sessions REST endpoint with a _queryFilter referencing a different realm, and receives back usernames, universal IDs, and active session handles belonging to other tenants. No public exploit code is referenced, but the attack requires only a standard authenticated REST call (AV:N/AC:L), so it is trivial to reproduce once the privileged account exists.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 03, 2026

Cross-realm session disclosure in OpenAM before 16.1.3 allows an authenticated attacker holding delegated RealmAdmin privileges to bypass authorization on the sessions REST endpoint and read usernames, universal IDs, and session handles from other realms in a multi-tenant deployment. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-105120 (CWE-200), requires the attacker to supply a _queryFilter that names a realm outside their own; single-realm installations are effectively unaffected. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the CVSS v4.0 score is 6.9 (v3.1: 6.9 medium), reflecting high confidentiality impact but high privilege prerequisites (PR:H).

RemediationAI

Upgrade to OpenAM 16.1.3 or later (Vendor-released patch: 16.1.3) as directed by the GitHub security advisory GHSA-x8cj-3hqv-cgwh. If immediate upgrade is not possible, review and minimize delegated RealmAdmin assignments, especially in multi-tenant deployments, and consider temporarily disabling or restricting access to the sessions REST endpoint query operation for non-global administrators; this may break legitimate session management for realm admins. Additionally, monitor for cross-realm _queryFilter values in session query logs as a compensating detective control. No workaround is provided in the advisory, so patching is the primary remediation.

Technical ContextAI · show details

OpenAM is an open-source access management and single sign-on platform maintained by OpenIdentityPlatform. The sessions REST endpoint supports a query operation that accepts a _queryFilter parameter to search session attributes such as usernames, universal IDs, and session handles. The vulnerability is a missing authorization check that fails to enforce realm boundaries when processing the _queryFilter, allowing a delegated RealmAdmin from one realm to specify another realm's name and retrieve cross-tenant session data. This is classified as CWE-200 (Information Exposure) and requires the attacker to already possess valid RealmAdmin credentials in a multi-realm deployment. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:openidentityplatform:openam:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms that all versions before the fixed release are affected. The CVSS vector shows PR:H (high privileges required), VC:H (high confidentiality impact), and no impact to integrity or availability, with no user interaction (UI:N).

DescriptionCVE.org

OpenAM before 16.1.3 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability in the sessions REST endpoint query operation that allows realm administrators to list sessions of every realm. Attackers holding delegated RealmAdmin privileges can supply a _queryFilter naming another realm to disclose usernames, universal IDs, and session handles across tenant boundaries.
