Unauthenticated network injection (PR:N/AV:N/AC:L) crossing a user/tenant boundary to other users' data warrants S:C; reads yield C:L and write/delete yield I:L, no availability impact.

6DescriptionCVE.org
n8n versions before 1.123.80, from 2.0.0 before 2.39.6, and from 2.40.0 before 2.40.1 contain a NoSQL injection vulnerability in the MongoDB Chat Memory node that fails to validate the sessionId parameter. Unauthenticated attackers can supply MongoDB query operators in the sessionId field to access conversation histories from other users and perform unauthorized write and delete operations.

AnalysisAI
Unauthenticated remote attackers can exploit NoSQL injection in the n8n MongoDB Chat Memory node to bypass sessionId validation and read or manipulate stored conversation histories belonging to other users, rated CVSS 4.0 base 7.0 (network-reachable, low complexity, PR:N) and assessed by us as CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The exposure is conditional rather than default: exploitation requires a target instance to run a workflow that uses the MongoDB Chat Memory node and to have its sessionId-handling path reachable (the CVSS 4.0 AT:P attack requirement), so installations that never use that node are unaffected, and the real-world impact depends on the sensitivity of the conversation content stored. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the target n8n instance runs a workflow using the MongoDB Chat Memory node and that its sessionId-handling path is reachable by the attacker (this is the AT:P attack requirement - not a default/stock configuration). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | CVSS 4.0 base is 7.0 (vendor/VulnCheck) and the vector is network-reachable and low-complexity with PR:N (unauthenticated), which is a genuine escalation over the sibling n8n advisories in this batch that mostly required PR:L. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to a fixed release: n8n 1.123.80 for the 1.x line, 2.39.6 for the 2.0.0-through-2.39.x line, or 2.40.1 for the 2.40.x line (Vendor-released patch: 1.123.80, 2.39.6, 2.40.1), following the vendor advisory at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-w24g-6454-7w7f. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all n8n deployments and determine which instances run workflows that use the MongoDB Chat Memory node with a network-reachable sessionId path; for those, restrict inbound access to the n8n instance and the backing MongoDB service to trusted networks or VPN only, and rotate any MongoDB credentials used by the node. …
