Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the victim to open an attacker-crafted link to the Kiteworks Core PDF viewer in which a URL parameter is manipulated (CWE-601 open redirect / content injection). No authentication is required of the attacker (PR:N), but success depends on user interaction (UI:R) - a victim must click the malicious link - and on the attacker persuading the victim to trust the rendered content. The impact is limited to integrity/content spoofing (I:L) under the trusted application domain; there is no direct read of appliance data or code execution. Affected: Kiteworks Core before 9.5.1; fixed in 9.5.1.

Impact

All signals point to a genuinely low-priority issue despite the 'Content Injection' framing. The vendor CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 4.3) is internally consistent with an open-redirect/content-spoofing bug: no confidentiality or availability impact, only limited integrity (I:L) reflecting the ability to render attacker-controlled content under the legitimate domain. Exploitation requires user interaction (UI:R) - a victim must click a crafted link - which is the primary limiting factor. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' There are no conflicting signals: the CWE-601 (open redirect), the 'Open Redirect' tag, and the description all agree. This is a low-real-risk issue whose main value to an attacker is lending domain credibility to phishing, not direct compromise of the Kiteworks appliance. A patch is available (9.5.1), so remediation is straightforward.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a link to the legitimate Kiteworks PDF viewer with a manipulated URL parameter that causes an attacker-controlled document to be loaded and displayed under the trusted application domain. The attacker sends this link in a phishing email; because the URL and rendered page appear to originate from the organization's genuine Kiteworks domain, the victim is more likely to trust the embedded malicious content or links. No public exploit code is identified, and success depends on the victim clicking the link (UI:R).

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 30, 2026

Content injection in the Kiteworks Core PDF viewer in versions before 9.5.1 allows remote attackers to load an attacker-controlled document inside the application's own trusted domain, because a URL parameter used by the viewer is not sufficiently validated (CWE-601). Under the assessed CVSS:3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N (base 4.3), no authentication is required of the attacker, but exploitation depends on a victim clicking a crafted link and then trusting the rendered content; the resulting impact is limited to integrity/content spoofing (I:L) with no reading of Kiteworks data, no code execution, and no availability impact. There is no confirmed active exploitation (not in CISA KEV) and no public exploit identified at time of analysis; the primary abuse case is raising the credibility of phishing that relies on links embedded in the displayed content. A vendor-released patch exists in Kiteworks Core 9.5.1.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade Kiteworks Core to version 9.5.1 or later, which is the fixed release identified in the vendor advisory (https://github.com/kiteworks/security-advisories/security/advisories/GHSA-g3hj-598g-338g); the CISA CSAF record (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cisagov/CSAF/develop/csaf_files/VA/white/2026/va-26-274-01.json) corroborates that a fix is available. Because exploitation requires user interaction (UI:R), prioritize the upgrade alongside user-facing controls: enforce URL rewriting and link inspection at the email/web gateway so that crafted links to the Core PDF viewer are flagged before delivery (trade-off: rewritten links can break legitimate secure-link workflows and may need allowlisting for your Core domain), and alert users that document links on trusted domains can still host attacker-supplied content (trade-off: reduces click-through on genuine secure links). If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict or temporarily disable external/document-parameter access to the PDF viewer where the configuration permits, and prefer instructing users to reach documents from within the authenticated Core interface instead of via emailed direct links (trade-off: reduces convenience and may frustrate external recipients). Given the assessed low severity (base 4.3, integrity-only, no KEV listing and no public exploit identified at time of analysis), the upgrade can be scheduled in a routine maintenance window rather than treated as an emergency, but the phishing-facilitation angle warrants communicating the risk to helpdesk and security-awareness teams.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-601 (URL Redirection to Untrusted Site / 'open redirect'), applied here in the content-injection form: the Kiteworks Core PDF viewer accepts a URL parameter identifying which document to render, and that parameter is insufficiently validated, so an attacker can supply a document they control. Because rendering occurs inside the viewer served from the legitimate Kiteworks application domain, the browser origin and application chrome reinforce the illusion that the content is an authentic, organization-hosted document. The platform is an enterprise file-sharing, secure email, and managed file transfer (MFT) product, so its domain carries high implicit trust for recipients of secure links - which is precisely why origin-confusion in the PDF viewer is useful to a phishing chain rather than a standalone compromise primitive. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:kiteworks:core:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the affected component is Kiteworks Core itself rather than an underlying PDF rendering library, and the EUVD record (EUVD-2026-90371) corroborates the affected range as core 0 through versions before 9.5.1. The CVSS vector contains PR:N, so the attacker does not need credentials, and UI:R, so a victim must follow the crafted link; scope is unchanged (S:U), consistency impact is low, and confidentiality and availability impacts are none, which is consistent with the independent assessment that this is a spoofing/facilitation issue rather than a data-disclosure or remote-code-execution flaw.

DescriptionCVE.org

Kiteworks Core before version 9.5.1 is vulnerable to Content Injection. A URL parameter in the PDF viewer was insufficiently validated, allowing an attacker-controlled document to be loaded and displayed under the trust of the legitimate application domain. This could increase the credibility of phishing attempts relying on malicious links embedded in the displayed content.
