A flaw has been found in Trusted Domain Project OpenDMARC up to 1.4.2. Affected by this vulnerability is the function opendmarc_spf_ipv6_explode in the library libopendmarc/opendmarc_spf.c of the component SPF Parser. This manipulation of the argument cp causes null pointer dereference. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
AnalysisAI
A NULL pointer dereference in the Trusted Domain Project's OpenDMARC (up to and including 1.4.2) can crash the mail filter when it processes certain SPF data for an inbound message. The flaw sits in opendmarc_spf_ipv6_explode() in libopendmarc/opendmarc_spf.c, where manipulation of the cp argument causes the parser to dereference a NULL pointer; it is remotely reachable by an unauthenticated attacker (CVSS 4.0 6.9, CVSS:3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L) who can influence the SPF information evaluated during mail handling. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires the target to run OpenDMARC (<=1.4.2) with its internal SPF evaluation active so that inbound mail reaches opendmarc_spf_ipv6_explode; the attacker must be able to influence the SPF data parsed (e.g., via a controlled sending domain's DNS SPF record processed during mail handling). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a CWE-476 NULL pointer dereference in OpenDMARC's internal SPF parser (opendmarc_spf_ipv6_explode in libopendmarc/opendmarc_spf.c), affecting versions up to 1.4.2. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch for OpenDMARC has been identified at time of analysis; the vendor was contacted about the disclosure and did not respond, so treat remediation as compensating-control driven until an upstream fix appears. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
