Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the attacker to possess any valid login token issued by the target instance - i.e. an ordinary user account - because login tokens are signed with the same instance secret and carry no purpose, audience, or expiry claim, so they satisfy the endpoint's only check. The provisioning route is remotely reachable with no session because the enterprise controller is absent from the authentication middleware's controller allow-list. The practical limiting factor is that the attacker must be able to obtain a signed token; on instances that permit self-registration this is trivial, but a fully closed instance with no attacker-obtainable account would block the primary path. No user interaction and no non-default configuration are needed beyond a running Postiz instance prior to v2.24.0.

Impact

The CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.1 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L) reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw requiring only low privilege - consistent with CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function): the provisioning controller is simply not on the authentication middleware's allow-list, and its only gate is a valid instance-secret signature that any ordinary login token satisfies. The 'PR:L' is well-chosen: the attacker does not need special rights, but does need a valid signed session token, i.e. any account on the instance. Confidentiality is scored N and availability L, with integrity H, which is defensible - the primary impact is unauthorized creation of a maximally-privileged 'lifetime' enterprise organisation and owner account (integrity), with resource/quota abuse (channel allowance 'far above any sold plan') driving the availability/cost impact rather than data disclosure. No EPSS score, KEV listing, POC, or SSVC decision data was provided, so exploitation-probability signals are absent; based on the available signals this is a genuine business-logic/privilege-escalation defect worth prompt patching for anyone self-hosting Postiz, but there is no evidence of active or automated exploitation. The signals are internally consistent (network business-logic bug, low complexity, single-account precondition); the main missing data is any exploitation-likelihood telemetry.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker registers or already holds an ordinary account on a Postiz instance, obtaining a normally-signed login token. They replay that token in the body of a request to the unauthenticated enterprise/reseller provisioning HTTP endpoint, which validates only the signature and not the token's purpose, and receive back the API key of a newly-created top-tier 'lifetime' organisation with an inflated channel allowance. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, but the attack is deterministic and requires no special tooling.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 22, 2026

Missing authentication on Postiz's enterprise/reseller organisation provisioning endpoint lets an authenticated low-privilege user escalate into full control of a newly minted top-tier organisation. Because the enterprise controller was omitted from the authentication middleware's allow-list, the route is network-reachable without any session, and its sole gate - a signature check on a token in the request body - is satisfied by the attacker's own ordinary login token, since login tokens are signed with the same instance secret and carry no purpose, audience or expiry claim. The endpoint then creates an organisation on the highest subscription tier flagged lifetime with an oversized channel allowance, provisions an owner account for the attacker, and returns a working API key for the public API in the response body (CVSS 3.1 7.1, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L; CWE-306). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the attacker only needs any valid account on the instance, which on self-registration-enabled deployments means anyone. Vendor-released patch: v2.24.0.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Postiz to v2.24.0, which the vendor release notes describe as addressing PSA-2026-P8W1J0 (https://gadvisory.org/advisories/PSA-2026-P8W1J0) and PSA-2026-TD98KY, with all users recommended to upgrade immediately; the upstream fix is commit 9259cf2429e8cc0c88414e88d5e6c783d7ffba63. Before upgrading, read the release's own upgrade notes because v2.24.0 adds new Prisma models and environment variables and ships new Temporal workflow versions, so a schema migration and new configuration are required - plan a maintenance window rather than a hot swap. If immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to block the enterprise/reseller provisioning routes at the reverse proxy or ingress for all external traffic, restricting them to trusted administrative networks; the trade-off is that legitimate provisioning must then be performed from those networks. Second, disable open self-registration so that no attacker can obtain the signed token the endpoint requires; this narrows the practical attack surface but does not fix the underlying missing-authentication defect, and it has no effect on instances where an attacker already holds an account. Third, rotating the instance secret would invalidate existing login tokens and organisation API keys and thus break the trust relationship the endpoint relies on, but it forcibly logs out every user and invalidates every issued API key, so it should be treated as a containment measure of last resort and must be paired with the upgrade. Operators who may have been exposed before patching should audit for organisations created with lifetime flags or anomalous channel allowances at the highest tier, remove any attacker-provisioned organisation-owner accounts, and revoke API keys belonging to organisations they did not create. Absence of public exploit code is not a reason to delay: the only prerequisite for exploitation is possession of a valid signed login token from the target instance, which is trivial on any instance permitting account creation.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is a textbook CWE-306 missing authentication for critical function, arising from an allow-list-based authorization design. Rather than protecting all controllers by default, the application binds its authentication middleware only to an explicit list of controllers, and the enterprise controller that serves the provisioning routes is not on that list - so the middleware never executes for those paths and no session is required to reach them. The endpoint's only remaining control is a body-carried token that must carry a valid signature produced with the instance secret; it never validates what the token was issued for. Postiz issues login tokens signed with the same instance secret, and those tokens contain no purpose, audience or expiry claims, making a normal user's own session token structurally indistinguishable from whatever privileged provisioning artifact the endpoint expected. The absence of a purpose/audience claim is the core identity-confusion defect: a token minted for 'logged-in user' context is accepted as authority to create organisations, owners and API keys. The resulting organisation is created at the highest subscription tier, marked lifetime, given a channel allowance far above any sold plan, and an organisation-owner account is created alongside it; the response body returns the new organisation's API key, which is immediately usable against the public API. CPE data (cpe:2.3:a:gitroomhq:postiz-app) indicates the Postiz application as the affected component across all versions prior to the fixed release.

DescriptionCVE.org

An HTTP endpoint intended for provisioning enterprise and reseller organisations is reachable without any session. The authentication middleware is bound only to an explicit list of controllers, and the enterprise controller is not on that list, so no authentication runs for these routes.

The endpoint's only check is that the request body carries a token bearing a valid signature from the instance secret. It does not check what that token was issued for. Login tokens are signed with the same secret and carry no purpose, audience or expiry claim, so an ordinary user's own session token satisfies the check.

Presented with such a token, the endpoint creates a new organisation holding the highest subscription tier, flagged as lifetime and with a channel allowance far above any sold plan, creates an organisation-owner account alongside it, and returns the new organisation's API key in the response body. That key is immediately valid against the public API.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Postiz's enterprise/reseller provisioning endpoint can be abused by a low-privilege account holder to create a lifetime top-tier organization, gain owner access, and obtain a working public API key. This undermines subscription and tenant controls, potentially enabling unauthorized resource consumption, customer impersonation, and financial or reputational harm. No public exploit identified at time of analysis.
