1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to possess a valid but still-pending Databasement invitation link (leaked, forwarded, or intercepted) - this is the core prerequisite, not a default-open condition. The flaw lives in the AcceptInvitation Livewire flow, which validates the token when the acceptance page first loads and caches that authorization decision without re-checking token validity at the moment of acceptance. The attacker must load the page while the invite is pending and then submit acceptance AFTER the legitimate invitee has already accepted, winning a timing race (reflected in CVSS AT:P). Limiting factors: only affects Databasement versions before 1.7.14; requires obtaining/holding a specific invitation link and precise timing; fixed by re-verifying the invitation server-side. |
| Impact | This is a genuine authorization/account-takeover flaw (CWE-863) but the real-world urgency is dampened by product footprint and exploitation preconditions. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N (9.1) correctly captures unauthenticated network reach and high confidentiality/integrity impact (account password overwrite → access to managed database credentials), and its AT:P (attack requirement) flag acknowledges the timing/race dependency described. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit are present in the input, so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - a patched authorization bug rather than an actively exploited threat. The score is legitimately high on technical impact but should be triaged as MODERATE real-world priority: exploitation is gated on possessing a leaked/forwarded pending invitation link AND winning a race to accept it after the legitimate user, and the affected product is an obscure single-maintainer self-hosted tool with negligible enterprise footprint. I assess AC as higher than the vendor's AC:L because reliable exploitation requires both a leaked link and precise timing; the AT:P flag partly offsets this. No conflicting signals across sources - patch, references, and description are consistent. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker obtains a forwarded or leaked pending Databasement invitation link and opens the acceptance page while the invite is still valid, causing the server to cache the authorization decision. After the legitimate invitee has already accepted, the attacker submits the still-cached acceptance to overwrite the account password and log in, gaining access to the managed database credentials and secrets. No public proof-of-concept is available, and the attack requires winning a timing window (CVSS AT:P), so it is opportunistic rather than trivially automatable. |

Account takeover in Databasement before 1.7.14 allows an unauthenticated remote attacker who possesses a pending invitation link to load the acceptance page, wait until the legitimate invitee accepts, and then submit acceptance using the cached authorization to overwrite the account password and gain access to managed database credentials and secrets. The vendor-published CVSS 4.0 score is 9.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N), while the independent assessment rates it CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N because exploitation requires a leaked or forwarded invitation link and a timing race rather than a default-open path. Exploitation status is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and no CISA KEV status was provided.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: v1.7.14; upgrade Databasement to 1.7.14 or later. The fix commit is 128efeaf6bc9ad4a63940f4c3030a56ab2969778 and PR #606 re-verifies the invitation server-side and derives the Adminer frame URL server-side; vendor advisory: https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/databasement-before-1.7.14-authorization-bypass-via-stale-invitation-token. If immediate upgrade is not possible, invalidate all outstanding or pending invitation tokens and pause invitation acceptance until patched, understanding that this interrupts user onboarding; restrict invitation links to trusted delivery channels and monitor for duplicate invitation acceptances or unexpected password changes; after upgrading, require password resets for any accounts whose invitations may have been exposed.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Databasement is a database management and credential management application built with Laravel and Livewire. The vulnerable AcceptInvitation Livewire component (app/Livewire/Auth/AcceptInvitation.php) validates the invitation token when the acceptance page first loads and caches that authorization decision instead of re-checking token validity during the state-changing acceptance action, which is an incorrect authorization weakness (CWE-863). The fix in PR #606 re-verifies the invitation server-side and also derives the Adminer frame URL server-side, addressing the stale cached authorization that could let a second party accept an invitation after the legitimate user. CPE cpe:2.3:a:david-crty:databasement:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the product; source references point to v1.7.13 vulnerable lines 30 and 45 and release v1.7.14.

CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
AC:H because reliable exploitation needs a leaked invite link plus winning a race after the legitimate acceptance; PR:N/UI:N since the attacker needs no account and account takeover yields high C/I, no availability impact.

DescriptionCVE.org
Databasement before 1.7.14 validates invitation tokens only when the acceptance page loads, caching the authorization decision without re-checking token validity during acceptance. Attackers with a leaked or forwarded invitation link can load the page while pending, then accept the invitation after the legitimate user has already accepted it to overwrite the account password and gain authenticated access to managed database credentials and secrets.

Executive ViewAI
A critical account-takeover flaw in Databasement, the platform our teams use to manage database credentials and secrets, could let an outside party seize a user account and inherit its access to every managed database. The attack requires possession of a leaked or forwarded invitation link plus precise timing, so the practical barrier is moderate, but the payoff for an attacker is direct access to high-value production data and secrets. Because the flaw is remotely reachable without credentials, any exposed Databasement instance should be treated as an urgent patching priority for the teams owning it.
