Remote unauthenticated requests to a guarded endpoint suffice (AV:N/PR:N/UI:N), leak accumulation is low-complexity sustained traffic (AC:L), and impact is availability-only heap exhaustion (A:H, C:N/I:N).

A flaw was found in the SmallRye Fault Tolerance library, which is used by Quarkus to provide strategies like retries and circuit breakers for microservices. The issue occurs when using the ApplyGuard or ApplyFaultTolerance annotations, where the library fails to release internal tracking objects after each request. This causes a steady increase in memory usage that eventually leads to the application slowing down and crashing due to lack of memory.

AnalysisAI
A memory leak in SmallRye Fault Tolerance, the fault-tolerance library used by Quarkus for retries, circuit breakers, and related resilience patterns, allows unauthenticated remote attackers to steadily exhaust application heap and cause denial of service on services that expose endpoints using the @ApplyGuard or @ApplyFaultTolerance annotations. Each request routed through those fault-tolerance guards allocates internal tracking objects that are never released, so sustained traffic grows memory usage until the JVM slows and crashes with an out-of-memory condition. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the target Quarkus/SmallRye application to actually use the @ApplyGuard or @ApplyFaultTolerance annotations on at least one reachable endpoint - the memory leak only manifests for requests routed through those fault-tolerance guards. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The vendor CVSS 3.1 base of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) rates this a high-severity, availability-only denial of service, and the CWE-400 (uncontrolled resource consumption) classification and 'Denial Of Service' tag are internally consistent. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch was identified in the provided references at time of analysis, so remediation must currently rely on compensating controls while tracking the Red Hat advisory (https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-94449) and Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2537502) for an updated SmallRye Fault Tolerance and Quarkus release. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all Quarkus and SmallRye Fault Tolerance deployments and identify every endpoint carrying the @ApplyGuard or @ApplyFaultTolerance annotations, then confirm the SmallRye Fault Tolerance and Quarkus versions in use and apply any vendor-supplied mitigation guidance from the corresponding Quarkus security advisory. …
