DescriptionCVE.org

Mongoid does not restrict which query operators may come from caller-supplied filter data when an application hands that data to its query-building methods. In an application that forwards externally supplied filter parameters in this way, a party with no credentials may influence how the database evaluates the query. This may result in unintended disclosure of stored field values and in reduced database performance.

AnalysisAI

Unauthenticated, remote query-operator injection in Mongoid - the official MongoDB object-document mapper for Ruby - allows an attacker to shape how MongoDB evaluates a query whenever an application forwards externally supplied filter parameters straight into Mongoid query-building methods without whitelisting allowed operators. Successful abuse can disclose stored field values (for example through $ne, $gt or $regex-style filter logic used for blind extraction) and, because operators such as $regex or $where can force expensive scans, can degrade database performance. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an application built on Mongoid that accepts externally supplied filter/query parameters and forwards them into Mongoid query-building methods without restricting or whitelisting allowed MongoDB query operators. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a NoSQL/query-operator injection (CWE-943) in Mongoid, the official MongoDB Ruby ODM. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch with a specific fix version is identified in the available data; the MongoDB JIRA issue https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/MONGOID-5994 tracks the fix, and upgrading to the first Mongoid release that references it is the primary remediation once MongoDB publishes a version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory every Ruby service using Mongoid and identify endpoints that accept external filter, search, sort, or query parameters, then deploy a hard validation layer or WAF rule that rejects any parameter key beginning with '$' and any operator not on an explicit allowlist before it reaches a Mongoid query builder. …
