AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N
AC:H because a non-TLS/MITM position is required; PR:N/UI:N as no client-side auth or interaction is needed; I:L only (impostor acceptance) with C:N/A:N since no data disclosure or availability impact.

The AsyncHttpClient (AHC) library allows Java applications to easily execute HTTP requests and asynchronously process HTTP responses. From 3.0.8 until 3.0.12, processScramAuthenticationInfo and processAuthenticationInfo compute the SCRAM ServerSignature or Digest rspauth verification result but log a mismatch and still deliver the response as authenticated. On a non-TLS or compromised transport, a peer that has not proved knowledge of the shared secret can therefore be accepted as the server. The fix rejects a present invalid value and computes Digest rspauth from the Authorization parameters actually sent, but verification remains unenforced when the value is absent, the sent parameters cannot be recovered, or Digest uses qop=auth-int. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.12.
AnalysisAI
Mutual-authentication bypass in AsyncHttpClient (AHC) 3.0.8 through 3.0.11 allows a man-in-the-middle who cannot prove knowledge of the shared secret to be accepted as a legitimate server when SCRAM-SHA-256 or Digest mutual authentication is used over a non-TLS or already-compromised transport. The affected interceptor methods computed the SCRAM ServerSignature or Digest rspauth verification value but only logged a mismatch and still delivered the response to the application as authenticated, so the client silently loses its only signal that the peer is an impostor. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires ALL of: (1) the application uses AsyncHttpClient 3.0.8-3.0.11; (2) it is configured with SCRAM-SHA-256 authentication OR Digest authentication with mutual authentication (Authentication-Info/Proxy-Authentication-Info handling) - neither existed before 3.0.8 and 2.x is entirely unaffected; (3) the connection runs over a non-TLS transport OR an already-compromised/interceptable transport; and (4) the attacker holds a man-in-the-middle position to impersonate the server. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuinely low-priority issue despite being an authentication weakness. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade the org.asynchttpclient:async-http-client dependency to 3.0.12, the vendor-released fix version, which makes a present-but-invalid SCRAM ServerSignature or Digest rspauth fail the request on both the origin and proxy paths (see https://github.com/AsyncHttpClient/async-http-client/security/advisories/GHSA-fj9w-c36g-h5x8 and PR https://github.com/AsyncHttpClient/async-http-client/pull/2235). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
