Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires only network reachability to a SigNoz query-service instance (versions 0.88.0 through 0.141.0) whose trace-funnel analytics HTTP endpoints (/{funnel_id}/analytics/* and /analytics/* under the trace-funnels router) are exposed; no credentials, user interaction, or non-default configuration are needed because the routes shipped without any authorization wrapper. The primary limiting factor is network exposure - instances behind authentication proxies, VPNs, or not exposing the query-service port to the attacker are not reachable - and impact is bounded to read-only disclosure of trace/funnel analytics rather than data modification or full system compromise. Upgrading to 0.141.1 (or applying the ViewAccess wrappers) closes it.

Impact

This is a genuine priority-worthy exposure. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H) describes remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity information disclosure, and the vendor PR (#12817) independently confirms the root cause: twelve trace-funnel analytics routes were registered without the am.ViewAccess authorization wrapper, so PR:N is verified by source code, not merely asserted. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC were provided, so there is no evidence of active or automated exploitation yet - the 8.8 score reflects ease of access and confidentiality impact, not observed attacks. The vendor's VA:L (availability) rating is questionable: the vulnerability is a read-only authorization gap and any availability effect from arbitrary funnel queries is speculative; the real impact is confidentiality of observability data (service topology, trace identifiers, durations, error activity). VC:H is defensible but on the generous side since the leaked data is telemetry/metadata rather than primary secrets. Net: real, easily exploitable auth gap in an internet-facing observability tool - patch promptly - but not a confirmed mass-exploitation event.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who can reach a SigNoz instance's query-service HTTP port sends a POST request with an arbitrary funnel definition to a trace-funnel analytics endpoint (e.g. /analytics/overview) with no credentials. The server returns trace analytics - service topology, span counts, durations, and error activity - allowing the attacker to map the target's internal microservice architecture and identify error-prone components. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, but exploitation is trivial given the missing authorization wrapper confirmed in the patch.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 16, 2026

Unauthenticated remote attackers can read trace and funnel analytics from SigNoz deployments running versions 0.88.0 through 0.141.0 because the trace-funnel analytics HTTP handlers were registered without any authorization wrapper. A single unauthenticated POST to endpoints under the trace-funnels router (both the /{funnel_id}/analytics/* and /analytics/* payload variants) returns identifiers, durations, span counts, service topology, and error activity, and because the payload-style handlers accept attacker-supplied funnel definitions, no pre-existing funnel or account is required. Exploitation is bounded by network reachability to the query-service listener and is read-only (no modification or code execution), and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to SigNoz 0.141.1, the vendor-released patch version (https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz/releases/tag/v0.141.1), which restores the am.ViewAccess authorization wrapper on all twelve trace-funnel analytics route registrations as implemented in PR 12817 (https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz/pull/12817) and commit f78bd492d8732f011bc96837cf9862db2df0783d; the vendor advisory GHSA-v549-7j2x-qjm5 should be consulted for the authoritative fix guidance. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the practical compensating controls are network-boundary rather than in-product, since affected builds ship no authentication on these routes: block inbound access to the SigNoz query-service HTTP listener from untrusted networks using firewall rules, a VPN, or a security-group policy so only the UI/backend tiers that need it can reach it - the trade-off is that any legitimate external or remote client of that API loses access; alternatively, terminate traffic at an authenticating reverse proxy that rejects unauthenticated POSTs to paths matching /api/v1/trace-funnels/*/analytics/* and /api/v1/trace-funnels/analytics/* - the trade-off is that legitimate funnel analytics views will also be blocked for unauthenticated sessions and the rule must be kept in sync with any path changes. Because exploitation is read-only, data disclosure already incurred cannot be undone by patching, so treat historical exposure of trace metadata as a potential reconnaissance leak and review query-service access logs for unauthenticated POSTs to the analytics endpoints before relying on the fix alone.

Technical ContextAI · show details

SigNoz is an OpenTelemetry-native observability platform whose Go-based query-service exposes an HTTP API through a gorilla/mux router. In the affected builds, the RegisterTraceFunnelsRoutes function registers twelve POST handlers across two route families - the funnel-scoped paths /{funnel_id}/analytics/validate, /overview, /steps, /steps/overview, /slow-traces and /error-traces, plus the WithPayload variants /analytics/validate, /overview, /steps, /steps/overview, /slow-traces and /error-traces - directly against the handler methods instead of wrapping them in the router's am.ViewAccess authorization middleware that protected other routes. This is CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function): the access-control layer exists and is used elsewhere, but was simply omitted from these route registrations, so the mux router dispatches the requests straight to backend analytics functions. The WithPayload handlers are notable because they build a funnel from the request body itself, which is why an attacker can submit an arbitrary funnel definition and immediately receive aggregated trace analytics rather than needing a valid funnel ID. The upstream fix (PR 12817, commit f78bd492d8732f011bc96837cf9862db2df0783d) simply reapplies the am.ViewAccess wrapper to every one of those route registrations, restoring the same authorization gate used by the rest of the API surface.

DescriptionCVE.org

SigNoz versions 0.88.0 through 0.141.0 fail to apply authorization wrappers to trace-funnel analytics endpoints in the HTTP handler. Unauthenticated attackers can submit arbitrary funnel definitions to retrieve trace analytics including identifiers, durations, span counts, service topology, and error activity without credentials.

Technical POC Analysis

CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function), with a secondary CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) on a sibling route set.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

SigNoz observability deployments running versions 0.88.0 through 0.141.0 expose their trace and funnel analytics data to anyone who can reach the query-service listener, allowing third parties to enumerate service topology, span counts, durations, and error activity without interacting with the application UI. This is an information-disclosure issue rather than a system-takeover risk - no data can be altered and no code can be executed - but the leaked telemetry maps internal architecture and operational health, which is valuable reconnaissance for follow-on attacks. Engineering, SRE, and security teams relying on SigNoz for monitoring should prioritize upgrading internet- or partner-exposed instances, since a vendor patch is already available.
