In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/ttm: Drop tt->restore after successful restore
ttm_pool_restore_and_alloc() can successfully complete the restore process via ttm_pool_restore_commit(), but tt->restore is not dropped afterward. As a result, subsequent backup/restore flows observe what appears to be a completed restore, while in reality shmem handles are still installed in tt->pages, leading to the stack trace below.
Fix this by freeing and dropping tt->restore in ttm_pool_restore_and_alloc() upon successful completion of the restore.

AnalysisAI
Memory corruption in the Linux kernel's TTM pool for Intel Xe graphics allows a local attacker with access to the DRM render node to trigger a stale restore state, leading to kernel crashes or potential privilege escalation. The flaw affects Linux 6.15 through the fix in 7.2.5/7.3-rc1 and requires the TTM backup/restore path (memory pressure or suspend/resume) to be exercised; no public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis.

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires local access to a host running an affected Linux kernel (6.15 through the fix in 7.2.5 / 7.3-rc1) with an Intel GPU using the xe driver and the TTM pool backup/restore (shrinker or suspend/resume) machinery active. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H = 7.8 High) is internally consistent in describing a local, low-privilege memory-management flaw with full-triad impact, but the AC:L rating is optimistic: triggering the bug requires the TTM pool backup/restore path (memory-pressure-driven shrink or suspend/resume of GPU buffer objects) to actually run and complete a restore, then be re-entered - a state-dependent sequence rather than a trivially reproducible primitive, so AC:H is more defensible. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Apply the vendor-released patch by upgrading to Linux kernel 7.2.5 or 7.3-rc1 (or later), which include commit 941ac10529b3be5965a88d432a161ab459672ba8 for stable and commit a46ab76b6cf5478e2ac7b942a377c7a1827b436a for mainline. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every Linux host running kernel 6.15 or later with Intel Xe graphics, confirm exposure by checking the running kernel version and whether /dev/dri/renderD* is reachable by non-privileged accounts, and tighten render-node permissions to trusted groups only; on unpatched systems that cannot be rebooted immediately, reduce unnecessary suspend/resume cycling and memory pressure where operationally feasible. …
